I've been playing the beta since the last build, and while it's been a steep learning curve,I've enjoyed it for the most part, until today.
The lag and hit detection today is absolutely atrocious,to the degree that I just said to hell with it and completely shut the game off mid match.I hardly ever rage quit, but everyone has there limits of how much abuse they can take.
Which leads me to my point.Easily the biggest problem with this "game" is that the net code is pretty much trash, and the hit detection is the same.I have pretty decent internet running a ping of 43ms so I can pretty much tell when lag is hitting hard.Saturdays are the absolute worst day to play too, which really concerns me for the official release of the game.
Plain and simple,no matter how much people complain about this gun or that gun,how this is OP,or that this______needs to be nerfed,if this game is expected to have anyone give a good GD about it,CCP should make it their number one priority that the gaming environment is as stable and playable as possible.Right now it definitely is not. There's nothing,NOTHING,that will drive away players faster than lag and an unplayable gaming environment.Just look at Brink.Good concept but in the first week the crippling lag drove away so many players that it was never able to recover.
Now I'm not comparing the gameplay of Brink to Dust, but as a shooter,if you can't shoot people and kill them, then what's the point of playing.I don't know if this is something CCP can fix,but I think the biggest sign of if they can or not is the next build.
Hope this doesn't come across as a QQ thread, but this is,imo,THE most important aspect of making sure that an online shooter succeeds, and hopefully they get it right,or Dust could be swept away like another trashy shooter. For everyone here that's hoping for a great game, let's hope that's not the case. |

You are complete correct about the lag, or to be more accurate, hit detection. If CCP can't fix the problem, then dust will fail.
BUT, here it comes, this is beta. So while it might make the game unplayable now, they still have plenty of time to fix it. |

I think they're doing this on purpose. Giving us the worst they can, before they improve it and then blow our minds by showing us what they really have.
It's still fun though, when the hit detection works. |

It's still fun though, when the hit detection works. I would imagine the bigger issue is that the better, shinier build that they said they are running in house during the CSM meeting is that way because of everything they're getting from us. I mean, anyone that remembers the Incarna demo from 2009 will recall that it looked amazing, and everything not related directly to how amazing it looked was completely broken. Torfi had to go through multiple clothing selections after arriving in his quarters just to stop his torso from disappearing. |
