Concussive Dampener - An impact version that radiates generic force damage off of the dropping merc when they hit the ground. As you drop you create an inertial bubble using a shield. That bubble stops your downward momentum by radiating it outward. (Think of it like stepping on a balloon. Soft enough & it just feels squishy -- hard enough & it pops.)
Inertial Displacer - A stronger inertial dampener that can be activated any time you jump (no wait) to allow for longer/higher jumps. |

If they use the EvE damage types, kinetic damage would be perfect. A skill or upgraded module to allow limited maneuvering would be nice, if the dampening field was off center it should push in a direction allowing movement like parachutists in free fall. |

i think thats a good idea for inertia dampers to be more like parachuts that you could guide to the ground. |

I think I saw another post about jump packs with something like this but I can't remember.
At any rate I think the issue with this is that some players are really going to find a way to abuse it. I realize that without a dropship you'll have to coordinate with a dropship to use this item repeatedly but that could still be really obnoxious. Imagine 6 people all bailing out of a drop ship at the same time right around you, causing you to die without you getting the chance to shoot back. It would drive me crazy. On the other hand it would take an impressive ammount of coordination.
What I think this idea needs to make it into something truly feasible is a limit on damage like 50 HP over a 5m radius (so 5 people would only do 250 HP which is soakable by a decent drop suit and would do hefty damage to a low level suit. Pairing this low damage with slowing the stand up rate (perhaps a quarter slower than with the current inertial damping) would make it interesting still but not really over powered. A coordinated attack using such a skill (perhaps paired with air-to-ground fire) would take skill and be effective but difficult to pull off.
As I've written this I've begun to come around to the idea. It would have to be done right though. I really don't want people raining out of the sky like living missiles. |

ive notice a few time when droping from the high towers after killing some annoying dropship/sniper/forge gunner or swarmer
that there is actually some degree of control up until the point u activate the inertial dampeners
ive tried this a few times wait till ur closer to the ground b4 u activate its is even posible to get down from the towers without using them at all due to this limited control |
