Before I make a thread in requests I wanted to ser what others think.
I was thinking an interesting idea for a new piece of equipment might be a zip line like item. allowing a merc to shot a line from a point of higher elevation to one of lower elevation. Then slide down the line, and drop when ever they want on the way down. |

I like where your head is at with this, but I don't think a grappling hook sort of thing is...I don't know....right for the context of this game?
If there were something like that i'd assume it would be something like a jetpack-like piece of equipment. |

I was thinking more of a tactical/stealthy item. One that anyone could use, and not make much noise or cause a big (relative) scene. No bright lights or loud engines involved. |

explosive throwing discs that stick, cuz that would be awesome. but yeah, the idea is pretty sound. Not sure how I'd react to it. Basically its leaning on the neutral area. |

Kinda defeats the purpose of a Scouts ability to reach areas that no one else can jump to. I feel it devalues the class. |

Some how I see grappling hooks attached to LAV's any one up for some dust skiing.
But I do like the idea of having a way to climb an object without having to call in a drop ship. |

Sandromin sounds to me like you want the grenades from the first mass effect (personally I'd say bring them in).
but back on topic. I'm a little bias on this idea, so could other players give some pros and cons cause I'm not really seeing any reasons why it wouldn't work. |

So it only makes sense to be able to use a rope both ways. |

That's the point, you SHOULD have to call in a dropship, hence the interdependence on other players and the need for teamwork. This will be especially true when Militia Vehicles will be removed in the next build.
You have to differentiate between "It would be awesome if we could..." and what actually fits within the intended gameplay. You should be forced to depend on others to do those sort of things, so if you want to get to the top of a building, have your friend in the dropship bring you up there. Each player should be significantly limited in what they're capable of doing by themselves, and I think gear items like this grappling hook thing, betray that idea. |

my apologies I misspoke I ment like a zip line. So you would be able to go off in a direction as well as down.
Edited op for correction. |

Well in that case, I suppose, but honestly I don't think it'll be all that useful. |

Valid point. It would keep drop ships more for their intended purpose. And increase there usefulness. OK other than the crazy things grappling hooks could have been used for like tank tug of war. I agree we shouldn't have them. |

Were you trying to say it would let you travel much further horizontally than jumping? Perhaps this would be a way to traverse a city map from a high place without getting into the messiness of having to wander the streets. You'd be a target sailing through the air above everyone's heads but you wouldn't have to/be able to engage in gun fights. Your hands would be busy holding on after all. I think that this would be useful for the scout class, perhaps it could take a side arm slot. |

But think of the potential here for this to be a non-lethal side arm. You hit a person with it, which would be hard since I would imagine it as a ballistic weapon, and you could shoot it again into another object. This would restrict the person's movement to the length of the cable between where they were shot and the second object you shot. They could free themselves by making a knife attack or two (holy cow an actual use for the Nova Knife!) which would be harder depending of the quality of your grapple. Why they were dealing with freeing themselves you could shoot them.
Its not over powered since it takes two shots (the weapon's whole capacity) and it does 0 initial damage.
This idea is actually quite a bit out in left field though (what happens when I'm trying to be creative while exhausted) so flame away. |

But why use such a primitive method of movement control when we could just use our Soon(TM) Stasis Webifiers? |

Sorry Dante but that takes out the usefulness of somethings as a few others said but what I'm wanting is a zip line equipment. Imagine tour entire squad is getting ready to attack an objective. You all surround the object. Then everyone zips in from a different direction. |

Mini turrets. A small programmable turret with like 60 shots or something, that you could place down and it would fire at enemies within its sensor range. Could be customized for shotgun shells 8, smg rounds 40, missiles 4, and or maybe just tripwire explosives, almost like a claymore. It would allow users to make a more strategic killing zone and also force logistics into a higher zone.
Obviously they would have to be balanced, like a zone of engagement, and limited turning scope, easily damaged ( like a sensor being broken so it just fires to no avail, even damaging friendlies, or jamming, or any variety of malfunctions).
Also, they should be reload able, but only by a player, or I can see a whole slew of them dropped in a nano circle.
And portability would be nice. But in order to balance the ability to set and take it anywhere, they should have a set animation, such as planting it down and then the balance legs bolting to the ground to stop for moving. And the same in reverse for taking. Having to press a couple buttons as the legs release a hold on the bolts to allow it to be moved.
And hackable. Just sneak up behind and WALA! New turret owner registration!
Just an idea. But I don't know if people would like it. |
