Apparently, an agile team on Eve Online is working a sort of sandbox survival DayZ style gameplay for the whole dead-in-the-water incarna thing.
Basically eve players will be able to dock with these relic stations, and look for small artifacts that will confer some kind of industrial or military advantage in the short or long term.
The idea behind this is the idea of multiple groups of players stumbling across each other in the dark of a radioactive station and wondering what to do. Do they kill each other or help each other find the way out again?
Now what if there where a group of hard ass dust mercs doing the same thing. That would make the eggers truly **** themselves. If they are lucky they will know how to use or own an armour vac suit, we will be tooled up with drop suits and assault weapons and ready to rock.
Please. Dust Devs, allow us in on the exploring station action, either as independents or as hired guns to protect the egger captains in the hostile environment.

Just click through the dev posts on this thread, it starts getting intresting around page 15 onwards.
A video of CCP dev in russia. Intresting from 8.00mins on. Includes a prototype of the in station gameplay (Its a prototype and rougher than minecraft). |

+1
Podling 1: Hey did you hear something? Podling 2: No, now quit getting jumpy and lets get this artifact and get out of here.
Merc 1: Alpha team hold your position. Let's wait till they get closer.
Podling 2: We are almost there.
Merc 1: Now
3 Seconds latter
Merc 1: Do yal think these podlings will ever learn, that it's better to hire a few of us before trying to do these scavenging runs? |

I giggled with glee at the thought. I really hope both communities get this feature.

Right before the demo is started he said only capsuleers could do this because of the radiation, but maybe they'll change that or add something like that on planets for mercs to stumble across and explore. |

This would make for some high stakes stuff for the pod pilots and a great controlled scenario where the two player bases could meet to either work together or trade bullets and blood.
An EVE player could contract a group to provide an escort for them as they go rummaging around these sites. Fail to guard your employer and you don't have a comfy ride back at the end of a sortie and have to eat your own bullet.
Alternatively you could contract an EVE player to setup a CRU at a site like this and have it ping you when some unsuspecting pod pilot comes a looking. Even if you don't deploy there I can imagine the cold shivers they'd get when they run into your CRU and realise they might not be alone.
Beyond the fun gameplay possibilities it'd be a great way to instill fear of Dust Mercs in Pod Pilots. |

That sure would bring something different into play, could go as far as having hostile A.I. drones wondering about making the hiring of mercs more viable. |

i think you underestimate the pod pilots,
what you do not see is the 400 other pod pilots that are part of a big alliance powerblock with one aim, to control said artifacts and the economy made from it.
if you have not seen what 400+ pod pilots do when they are bored, your not going to like them when angry and stressed out.
let us take this senario
Podling 1: Hey did you hear something? Podling 2: No, now quit getting jumpy and lets get this artifact and get out of here.
Merc 1: Alpha team hold your position. Beta squad Let's wait till they get closer.
Podling 2: We are almost there. woot woot RAWR

podling 1: Do yal think these mercs will ever learn we control everything, Beta squad return to quarters Tango is down , primary the capitals, no one leaves alive !!! |

I would love this, I think more so we should be able to be contracted to stay on a ship while they do there EVE stuff and when they decide to fight a ship and send us Dusters to take control! It could be they have to get a certain distance and send us, then we board the ship. We have to set a CRU and move to engineering and take another CRU. Then have another objective we took engineering so the hip can no longer move, we move to coms relay or something to make it so they can't ask for help in EVE if they have not yet. Then take the bridge. If we can hold the bridge and wipe out there Mercs or A.I drones they have the ship is taken over and given to our contract holder.
If you board a ship you have the amount of people boarding this is why you need to drop a uplink, No drop uplink means no new mercs spawning into the ship and when you hit 0 mercs game over ship was not taken over. However on the other hand of you take the opposing CRU's or destroy them they can't respawn and are widdled down and loose the ship! |

maybe via an eve to dust contract system.
you get your team together, leave your quarters to a mass boarding stage ( like event horizon/war room) board your transport ( a flashy looking eve ship ( NO MINMATAR!!) and transported to the complex.
now it is possible another eve pilot has also laid a contract on this area, and has an incoming 24 man light infantry your 12 man strong, heavy logisitcs based tankers. you win you get the loot left from bodys and the contract payment.
the eve player receives his base and starts to gain planetary resources or whatever. the risk to eve player that 700 million isk contract payment, you fail not only do you loose everything, you make a new enemy who will one day seek out the revenge |
