Destructible environments are cool and all, but I don't think it will really add that much to gameplay. I would rather have time and resources be spent on more exotic scifi weaponry and equipment, or increasing the player count. |

that would be a true battle not just 12 guys running around a big map. |

It was stated that there was memory issues with providing 'full destructable' envrionments.
I rather see tactial envronmental destruction. Blow up a wall, blast a locked door out, take out a bridge, or remove facility gates. As that wouldnt be memory heavy as blowing up all of biomass facility. I mean how do you begin deconstruct something like that? |

We're not running the final numbers, the devs are looking at increasing map and battle sizes before release - but DEFINITELY not into the hundreds for release, let alone breaking 1000 in one map.
More importantly though, each planet will be covered by several maps which can interact with one another to some extent - you might be fighting in one part of the planet while another group of your allies are fighting on another battlefield to decide control over the same world. |

I don't know if Unreal Engine 3 can handle destructable environments. The Frostbite engine can but there is no way EA is going to license that out. As far as 1000 players, MAG has a mode with 256, the PS3 can handle at least that much, I don't know if this game engine can though. There are definitely memory issues to consider with either concept. And server bandwidth issues to consider with large numbers of players in a single match. |

i have played mag and it felt fuller with 256 players. i just wish that we could get more players into one match. |

+1 for destructable lightposts :)
But the engine is pretty set, and I can only imagine the burden on clients and server for stuff blowing up from 24++ people in the game.
I think we're a ways out for that, but it would be fun.
I too would rather see bigger maps and more people. |

well i notice at the highest there is 500 plus across 20 matches why not just consolidate them in to one match. |

Maybe but I think it will fail with the server capacity. There are over 5000 systems today with about 5-8 planets each. All of them will have about 20 maps with up to over hundred players. They each have skills, vehicles and dropsuits. Then you have everything from EVE, a player controlled market and everything else that has an effect on other players runs over one server. i think it will require a next generation of servers. |

You'll never see destructible environments with the unreal engine. While they look cool and add some tactical depth and realism to a shooter, it doesn't really fit into ccp's endgame of what they're going for. I would be happy with at least 64 player servers, but anything beyond that is just extra frosting. |

Not sure you can say that about UE4 just yet, but that's a world away. Forget about destructible environments for the moment. |
