So, I've been debating whether or not to start a corporation in DUST. As it stands though, I have relatively little experience with the game and have only been playing EVE for about two months. Theoretically, I'd love to create a corp in both EVE and DUST, but since I haven't been playing the beta very long, I don't know many people here, and I have no real EVE contacts either.
All things considered, now is probably the best time to start a corporation- before the game goes gold. But, since this would be my first attempt at running a corp/guild/clan- you get the idea- and no financial backing, I'm not exactly sure if that is a good idea. The way I see it, I have three options:
- Go ahead and start the corp, figure stuff out as I go, and run it like a typical console clan.
- Start the corp, figure it out as I go, and quickly find backing in EVE.
- Join another DUST corp for the time being, get established in DUST & EVE, then strike out on my own.
As I'm typing this, I think I've already figured out what I'll do. The third option seems the best.
P.S. Anybody have any tips on starting a corp in either game? Like I said before, this would be my first time doing this. |

The best advice i can give you is join a corp before you lead one because a corp is NOT a clan. Its closer to a business if EVE has anything to go by. A lot of dust "clans" are probably going to fail because of this.
Earn experience with a decent corp, then if you feel like it and when your ready make your own.

Ignore everyone and go for it! No training like on the job training man have some balls be a leader and get it rocking and rolling. Or follow the norm and be like everyone else . Baaaaaaaaaaaa
Edit: Ran a 0.0 200 man + eve corp and there is no manual no ammount of waiting will aid you at all. Get in there. PS if you hav the balls to start it I might have some cash to help you get rollin. |

I couldn't find a corp in EVE either, so I quit... that was a mistake. I really wish I would've kept with it and done the grind, the game is supposed to be so cool after the first 6 months, and I'm always seeing new epic things happening in New Eden. If you can gather a few players together I don't see why you wouldn't want to start your own little corp in Hi/Low-sec, could be a fun learning experience - will also keep the game interesting as I'm sure you'll do new and different things with a corp, that you wouldn't just do on your own. |

I've taken an executive position in a corp started by a couple guys I met playing bf3, and it's been a great experience. When I started I had no knowledge of the EVE universe and they were the guys who told me about Dust. But I dove in head first, learned everything i could about EVE, Dust, the economy, politics, etc. It really is an a giant universe to immerse yourself in. Only a few months ago our corp was just a few guys, now, without giving away too much, we are significantly larger and I've met some great players both in my corps and in others as well. Do it, worst case scenario is you don't like it so you disband or let your corp be absorbed by a larger, more establishes one. Typing this from my phone so it'll be hard to provide all the links, but there are tons of.resources out there to help you such as dust514.org, Wiki.eveonline.com, dustunicon.enjin.com, a recruitment thread in this forum that is commonly on page 1, the irc channel (youll have to find the thread from gridboss to get acces) and these are just a few.
Anyone in front of a PC, if you could help provide links to any of the sites listed I am sure the OP would appreciate it. |

A player named ZionShad also has a thread titles "Tools for DUST Corporations" somewhere in this forum with a lot of good info. Again, sorry I couldn't provide you with the direct link. |

+1 to this...
As Jenza said, Corporations in New Eden are conducted in a completely different manner than Clans & Guilds. This is primarily because of the potential size of the Corporations as well as the metagaming that you will likely be involved in as a Leader of a Corporation.
Unless you have some experience in how politics are dealt with in New Eden or have a good understanding on the concept of metagaming, I would refrain from starting a Corporation.
I guess the other thing to consider, is how much time you will be able to dedicate to the game. There may be some instances where you will find yourself spending an evening doing things related to New Eden, yet not actually "playing". A good example of this was when I was a Leader of a Guild in DCUO, and I literally spent a whole Saturday just trying to settle a matter that involved 1 of my Members and a Member from a Guild that we had a good standing with. |

I do know that small corps are pretty easily hassled by wardecs of bigger corps who see easy prey and some light amusement. If you're good with politics, I'd say go for it and be prepared for a lot of work and skill point investment into to-be-released leadership skills. There's real work running an EVE corp, especially if you are starting out alone.
If you find yourself liking to stir up trouble, you might want to get some real experience under your belt before you strike out on your own, and ask others to follow you. I'd suggest EVE University for starting out in EVE. They're there to help you get going and assume you'll quit at some point so there's no drama there. |

Going to give you some information to consider
#1 This is New Eden, where it is completely legal to join a group of people, make nice with them for a few months then steal everything that isn't bolted down.
#2 Spys will join your corp and sell you out, this is not a possibility it will happen.
#3 The meta will try and kill you.
#4 Corps in New Eden are like nothing else in the gaming world. Not only do you have to deal with drama from within, and Meta from without, you also have to manage the cash flows, logistics, industry, backers, and timezones. The is an old stero-type in EVE, that all eve players have two alarm clocks, one for real life and one for EVE. New Eden happens 23/7 and as soon as you go to bed, someone will try to steal everything you have. |

Do you have friends that will join, or are you going to spam the forums in the hope of getting people you've never met to join your little "clan"?
If the former, perhaps, if the latter, lol. |

Lots of good advice there already ... As you're in Eve, you could look around for a small'ish corp that's part of an alliance, get involved a bit, and work towards putting yourself forward to lead a DUST focused corp integrated with the same alliance. Would be a good way to go, with the backup of several other allied corp CEO's to talk to if you're stuck. Just another path to consider. |
