I have not really read any of the other New Eden history, but I'm a little confused.
So are we humans in the real life (i.e. not the video game) the sleepers. And when we are taking over the mercs we are almost giving them a soul or free will or something. And they are developing tech to keep that out. So in the PvE we will be fighting mindless clones, where as we are free thinking clone. We are able to take contracts from both the four nations and capsuleer corps.
Or am I way off base here? |

You are previous humans that are being employed threw the current factions that you are in now. The technology that is in us comes from Amarr research and salvaging of bodies known as 'sleepers', sleepers are old humans from the start of the human incursion into the galaxy now known as New Eden that are in a state of some hyperbaric sleep and some posses implants in their heads that have the ability for ground soldiers to transfer consciousness upon death. We mercs are fighting on this planet now threw these various factions for the reason of field testing this technology. In PvE you are fighting robotic rouge drones ( a whole other story ) they are just robots really. |

We are currently being field tested by Mordu's Legion, thus the name of the beta is "Mordu's Private Trials". At least that's what Templar One would have me believe. Jacus should actually already know about the problems with sleeper tech, but maybe he is putting on a front to protect his trials, or they could be doing some minor tweaks to the story to be more in line with what they plan for the future.
Glad to see some set up for the gravity of Dust 514 and how it will shake the very core of EVE. When the sleepers or The Other come we are in for a fight. An interesting take. From the Chronicle though, my understanding was that Jamyl has developed the clean tech, perhaps to overcome her own guilt at what she has done to the Sleepers. While acting due to her own dark influence, presumably she feels like the initial salvaged tech was a huge mistake (since she ordered for it all to be shut down) and now seeks to redeem herself, or at least absolve herself of the shame. While Mordu's Trials came about as a result of the chip that was recovered at the end of Templar One, I was never one hundred percent sure that the tech developed as a result by Mordu, the Gallente and Ishukone was necessarily a clean version. Presumably there were attempts at reverse engineering, but I feel that this would have still resulted in developing an understanding of the same processes that Jamyl had at her disposal before she ordered it to be shut down. That is, they'd also need to recover the chips still from Sleeper sites, but they now also had the tech to use them. My feeling is that Mordu's Trials are using recovered technology, this Chronicle takes place in a time before Dust 514 comes out of beta, and the multitude starts to descend - and clean tech (a nice shiny release version of Dust 514 in parallel) means a more widespread use of the technology. All in all, I'd love for "unclean" tech to be in the heads of anyone who participated in Mordu's Trials. Newcomers to Dust 514 will encounter beta testers who have an enormous headstart if they get to transfer their SP, but at the disadvantage that we get the completely random chance to go completely nuts and start screaming some alien obscenities, while we lose control of our thrashing, foaming toon, giving a noob with clean tech a window to overcome the impossible. Encourages testers to create new clean characters as well, free of the possible psychotic episode a carry-over from beta might randomly (and very infrequently) experience.....
The problem with us being 'clean tech', it seems that the number '514' implies in the story that people who have that technology have a defect whenever the numbers pop up. Mordu sent out the message '514' and soldiers like us responded to that call sign...possibly meaning we have this defect also. That conclusion may seem odd because it would imply the factions do not know or don't care anymore that we have this defect. Arkombine was obviously not part of the summit in the story but are we here of our own accord carrying our faction names and deciding on this planet what path to choose?
Debo's conclusion (albiet misunderstanding of the whole story) of the 'we are giving them free will or something' was interesting because it stumbles on the proposition that we are actually the sleepers threw this 'defect' , although a better interpretation is that we are reincarnations of the sleepers and it has given us the freewill to align, attack and conquer who ever we now choose. An issue though is that it would seem inconsistent with how capsuleer technology is related to how people control them. The whole thing is a stretch I could be wrong but until we know further information on the importance of 514 it may or may not lead to further credence on the matter.

I am glad they are continuing to feed off the story from Templar One, it was a great book and made me even more excited for DUST 514. I wonder how The Other will play into this. Also how the Jove will play in if at all, the Jove that warned the doctor about The Other seemed to make me feel like the Jove were much more involved than previously thought.
Also PvE missions to sleeper sites....would be awesome. Fighting super humans with the strength to kill entire squads of elite Amarrian special forces with the chance to find sleeper tech. I am in. |
