Hello there. I feel like whining today...
I saw that servers will be up tuesday at 11pm GMT. Wich is something like 1 am in Europe and 7-9 am in Asia. When in the US, it will be something like 5 pm.
I'm also thinking about 4th of July open server.
So tell me, do you hate somehow anyone who's not US time zoned ? For a european corp, it's kinda weird imo.

Not sure they always favour the US, after all the servers usually come on during the day in Europe, US guys are usually asleep at that time. |

LOL
11:00 am GMT is about 5:30 am in the US.
Pretty sure it doesn't really favor anyone, because US folks are still asleep, Euro folks are working, and asian folks should be going to bed.
Get over it. |

They go by EVE Online servers. EVE servers go down at 11am GMT everyday, for maintenance, as that's the best time for maintenance (seeing as everyone's either eating lunch, eating dinner, asleep, working or at school). As DUST will be running concurrently to EVE, it makes sense to have the same downtime. |

I think he meant on normal days, which for me, is about 7.30am EST when the servers come on
Tonight it will be about 6pm.

EVE servers are located in London. So will be DUST once launched.
I don't know about Londoners, 11am daily downtime when servers shutdown/reboot, defrag, and whatever maintenance it need just before lunch time. I'll say it's a good incentive to make sure the downtime goes as planned so as not to miss lunch because of botched up maintenance Also patching happened during downtime that goes by a few hours. Shutdown servers, patch it up, go for lunch break, hop back to works, pray for problemless patching or spend the rest of the day troubleshooting.
Why DUST dev teams are in China's Shanghai which is +8 GMT? What perfect time would it be, to work during daytime instead of graveyard shifts, to observe play testing by players in US, since they are the numerous and active during night times between -5 and -8 GMT.
Above is all just wild guesses. |

So what? Just be happy for the US guys that they get to play tuesday and that CCP didn't first open the servers 11am GMT wednesday. If they could open them up 11am GMT tuesday they probably would've.

Does it really matter?
If we were talking about days or weeks then I'd be inclined to join you in your frustration. However we are talking about a minor inconvenience here, it's going to be up and running on Wednesday when you get up or get home from work/ school.
Also this has been happening with games for years (as the US is a larger Playerbase than the EU it makes sense from a commercial perspective). If you are not used to it by now, then you are either new to gaming or need a hug. |

Might be because the majority of players play on the US servers, or so it seems. Whenever I log on the US servers usually have more than EU by landslide, very late night it's not as bad though. |

The downtime isn't done to favor one area over another. TQ's daily DT has been at 1100GMT for as long as I can remember. |

For the record, this topic was never about the daily downtime or the usual opening hours of the servers.... Did anybody red my original post ?
I was merely pointing out the fact that when unplanned things happen, they tend to favor US. 4th of july. Opening of the new build at 21 GMT . Opening planned today at 23GMT.
But see. it finally opens earlier today :D Yay me ! lol |

Yeah CCP!
Why do you pick any point in time to do anything? I mean it's just going to p*ss someone off as an inconvenient time.
Like why do you start the servers on Thursday? Some of us have to work.
Dang, where's that sarcasm font markup again?

Hey, it's not like they only opened the US server. We got to play 4th of July too in Europe. It's only a beta, and downtime is useful for trolling these forms. I think CCP doesn't hate the rest of the world more than they hate Americans. I think they hate us all evenly.

Hm....perhaps they could license or leverage some of the technology that Amazon uses. Like this feature for example: Amazon Yesterday Shipping
