On several matches on Skirmish I have had players landing a dropship on the high towers surrounding the map, and switching to the gunner seat. From there they rain down rockets and spam unlimited fire at the objectives. I know that these towers are used by snipers too, I have no problem with that. But unlimited fire dropships I do. The only way to stop them from doing this is to get in a dropship of your own and fly up there, and then either knock them off the tower with your ship, or land, get out and attack them. In one game I had 3 of the towers occupied with vipers, and although I did kill them, it was a rather irritating and cheap tactic.
Will there be some kind of fix? I know its not really a bug, just players merely using cheap tactics, but it sure is annoying.
Has anyone else had this issue. |

Yes, lots, it's a popular (if cheap) tactic. You don't have to go up and chase them down though, you can use AV weapons to take them out as well. Either way, sitting ducks=easy points. |

All the time, for now u can just go up there n mess their day up. I admit its cheap, but so are remote explosives on spawn points. At objective a beside the building i have died prob 100 or more times from that crap.

There are a lot of cheap tactics in this build, and yeah, this is one of them. As for a fix for dropship camping, I understand that militia vehicles are a temporary thing, so once people need to spend isk on dropships it might decline in popularity as right now it's easy to pay $0 and get a weapon you can usually manage to missile a handful of enemies to death with before a forge gunner takes you out.
Maybe more to the root of the issue, however, is missile turrets themselves. I've been thinking that railguns/blasters/missile turrets have been in need of a balance pass for a while now. Balancing missiles better would make killing infantry with them at long range less of a turkey shoot than it is now. |

Glad to hear militia vehicles won't be in the final build. I gotta say, I'm loving the risk/reward nature of the game. I agree with you about the rocket cannons; maybe a drop off in power over range, or projectile drop over distance, making aiming over range a more skilled affair. |

lol, sounds like a plan, I'm an assault rifle specialist and pilot though. Will have to make an anti vehicle dropsuit. |

I don't see this tactic as invalid. It isn't impossible to deal with, so it does not need to be dealt with. This isn't Blizzard, where the game is catered to stupid people. |

Has anyone else had this issue. Swarm launchers, my friend. The tower tops are within draw distance from about a 25m radius around the base, and with two people, or just one with an advanced or prototype swarm launcher, the pilot will never be able to fly away fast enough to survive. I have a Scout suit dedicated to sprinting around the map popping dropships. |

There is another solution besides the "use another dropship" in the OP: Sniping.
My way of fixing is to drive my Sag' to a hill and use the extra elevation to allow my main gun to fire off four rounds or so to clear the top of any and all dropships. Fairly obvious when I score the hit, not only do I see the explosion (Why are draw distances for explosions farther then they are for the dropships themselves?), but I also see the WP reward for damaging/destroying it.
I've seen people do the same with forge guns too.
A dropship is an extremely large target, and toggling for a second the map display (down on D-pad) let's you see the exact location of the dropship to aim at, never fails. You just can't miss a target that large. |

Except if they park it just right (just hanging over the edge of the sloping part in front), your swarms will harmlessly detonate under the lip every time. (They're still sitting ducks for the forge gun that way, though.) That's not even taking into account the weird glitches where dropships parked on top of structures occasionally become literally invincible. I've been able to kill a gunner out of his parked ship with a Swarm Launcher before, without damaging his ship. It took dozens of salvos, so he must have received a death by 1000 cuts via the SL's puny splash damage. (He probably didn't notice, as you can't see your dropsuit health while in a vehicle.) |

If you can get someone to spot them from up close, Swarm Launchers can still lock on from a MUCH longer distance - you just need the target marker on map and a clear line between you and them - they don't have to be in draw distance. Also, it's possible to curve the swarm shots if you can get the right angle, even against people who do this - I've done it a few times before. That makes it HARDER to hit, but not IMPOSSiBLE. |

Uh the missle cannons on skirmish weather attacking or defending can shoot up there. There are many good ways in this thread to take care of this "supposed "problem. All of them have been mentioned so I wont add to them but if the enemy is up there you should be on coms requesting one of your teamates to fly up there with there DS and take care of them.I would happily do this for you but once I have air supremacy. Im going to do the same thing.People complain about this are probably the same people who complain about snipers.Ill tell you this with my DS you should be happy Im up there where all I can see is a chevron instead of having 2 gunners because when thats the case its much worse for the OPFOR.
On one hand you complain about RE's on objectives but if I just put one shot on the hack point nobody has to die.Nobody complains when I get them out of being spawn raped in the last spawn by a sigarus when I blow it up....if your pissed about bombs falling out of the sky on you your really gonna hate it when the artillery turrets come out. When people in space are orbitally bombarding you......LMAO.
This is a legit tactic same as sniping. You just have to become an anti-sniper.....

Towers should either be raised enough you can't get onto them or lowered/narrowed enough to be subject to rocket launcher fire. The only thing that can hit them are some missile turrets and forge guns.
There is definitely an invulnerability glitch. I've landed on an adjacent tower, been dueled out of my viper, then every missile volley, and the tank I called in. All this and the guy was only flying the default Viper.
I think vehicles should be subject to resupply like infantry. Sagaris/Surya are enough winbutton as it is. Then you wouldn't be able to camp and hold the fire button over spawn points. |
