So in the lavs it makes more sense as the shield may not wrap around the gunner posisition, but in dropships if the shield are up it doesn't make sense gunners/passengers get sniped. The shield would protect them. I am not trying to make snipers weaker props to the guys that can make those amazing shots.
Also pilots should get points for vehicle spawns just like a drop uplink |

its so stupid i didnt realize this but yeah it seems odd if u have a shield that bullets could kill u but i think lav with shield should cover it but the shield goes down quick anyway but idk if i kill them on the back because of the shield being gone since i shot through it
i agree it should be with with lav and dropships unless someone knows a science why it shouldnt? |

I would say that the shield only protects the ship its self not the large gap in between it. |

I assumed the shields did that as well. until i found out i could snipe them out of it. I think that that ability makes it a bit more balanced. |

In eve it surrounds the entirety of the ship if you watch the animation figured it would do the same here |

It wouldn't make sense to have some sort of A) plasma shield or B) force field around the open space in the vehicles.
If it were option A, jumping out of a vehicle with the shields up would cause incineration, and that generally isn't good for your health.
And if it were option B, you would get a nice bump on your head from running into an invisible brick wall.
My guess is that this is intentional, not a design flaw. |

It's inconsistent though.
Shoot a Forge Gun round into a gunner, and it hits the Dropship's shields. Fire Swarm missiles and if they hit in front of the gunner, he takes splash damage and the shields absorb the rest. Use your AR and it hits the shields. But Snipers... and ONLY snipers, ignore the vehicle shields and take out the target.
And for lore purposes, explaining how a shield would work to prevent incoming fire, without being problematic for people jumping out, it could easily be energy-reactive. High-speed projectiles are carrying a lot of kinetic energy, plasma rounds and the like are obviously highly-energised. A human body, stepping out of the side of the ship, on the other hand, is significantly less energy pushing against the shield, so it wouldn't push back as hard, allowing you to pass through without trouble. That could also explain why infantry weapons can't be fired, because they'd be blocked by the ship's shield. And you could explain the Dropship's guns as circumventing the system by having the barrel designed to project outside the shield, avoiding the problem.
Of course, the "snipers get to ignore shields" part isn't so easy to handwave away. |

Well, you could look at it from the perspective that a round from a sniper rifle has a much higher velocity than a round from an assault rifle. Perhaps the bullet speed is simply so high that it doesn't provide the shields with adequate time to react. |

This isnt true. just yesterday i gunned two people out of the gunner seat point blank with a smg. |

My favorite still is getting a LAV driver from a full vehicle and then snipe the next guy that jumped behind the wheel, that last guy was faster though and I missed him, lol. |

This isnt true. just yesterday i gunned two people out of the gunner seat point blank with a smg. I haven't tried it with the SMG at point-blank, but it doesn't work with ARs at any range, and doesn't work from about 3m away with SMG. |

Its not true AR's can kill the gunners ive did it allready against a dropship who thought it would be a good idea to come into my Range. I aimed where the gunner should be and a few rounds later he was dead. Well the pilot got mad and crushed me with his dropship. |

Think this answers it perfectly.
Ive only once sniped a Gunner, l was actually trying to bring down the Dropship...then to my surprise l see a little stick man drop from the ship...and that wonderful message pop up in the top right corner |

I think it was an intentional design flaw.
If you watch animations you can see bullets are hitting a bubble around the vehicle. The shields would not harm the occupants because you have to hack enemy vehicles to use them. That probably includes a Friend-or-Foe system that keys friendlies to the shield system to pass through.
My question is: What engineer would design a vehicle for troop transport or anti-infantry combat roles, that completely fails to protect and exposes the occupants to direct arms fire??? What's the point of the vehicle if it can't perform it's primary role? The gunner is the most important part of a weapons system. It makes more sense to keep him operating that weapon for as long as possible. Not one shot kill like some stupid action movie.
The shields should at least protect or reduce damage to the occupants.
Only a game designer would let you shoot the occupants, but leave the vehicle unharmed. |

i personally love shooting waste gunners out of drop ships and from the backs of lavs... that said, i wouldn't be surprised if they changed this by the final build. |
