This idea is for high security space matchmaking announced by CCP.
One-sided battles are no fun, I speak from experience from being on the winning and losing sides of one. Intense and close battles are the ones that get your adrenaline pumping, and make you really enjoy yourself. Obviously not all players are equal, and the teams with the majority of high skill point players will have an advantage.
Imagine a 12v12 battle, if one team has 84million SP (average of 7million SP per user), and another team has 12million SP (average of 1million SP per user). The 84million Skill Point team would most likely win; not only because of better gear, but also because the 84million SP team have more experience.
To prevent large gaps in collective SP, the high-sec matchmaking system should match players together in teams that have fairly equal collective total SP. This will help prevent one-sided battles that make new people rage quit the game. |

Considering that match-making systems are generally made to balance players based on skill level, I'm sure this is already the goal. |

I dunno about collective. One strong outfitted tank can demolish an entire enemy team! |

Then that enemy team is waltzing over to that tank and saying "Hey! Shoot me!". One under skilled team can take out a tank if they're smart enough to get a couple forge guns blasting away at it. |

Eve University and Red-v-Blue have always provided guidance to new players and have even given their own form of match making based on not only skill points but also on actual experience. Considering that dust mercs will soon be able to join eve corps and vise versa, we can expect to see a bunch of corporations in dust immediately forming to assist new players and matching them with the proper enemy in hi sec. Now, if you head into low sec or null sec, good luck finding fairness at all. |
