I mentioned in another thread that one of the things that initially drew me to EVE was that, in this universe, someone with planning and determination can chart their own course in the universe, by themselves, with a group of friends, or as part of a massive alliance GÇô someone with the will to power can write their own story, and this where some of the best stories of player actions in the EVE universe have come from: from galactic wars launched and driven by the players, to acts of skullduggery and heists, and everything in between.
So now we have DUST, and I am hopeful and excited for this game for many of the same reasons as I am for EVE. You can do whatever you want to do with some determination and a plan, whether you are satisfied with just inserting plasma bolts in craniums, or building something that will become one of the major players in the game universe.
Personally, a few years down the road after launch, IGÇÖd like to be able to say that my Dust character has fought on every planet across the galaxy and back with his corp and alliances mates, be it a forest paradise or another god-forsaken hell hole GÇô taken part in major war offensives, celebrated our victories and suffered our defeats. I want to be able to say GÇô and for others who play in this shared universe to say- that we have seen and done it all, and have the reputation and stories to prove it GÇô that we become part of the history of the EVE universe that Dust 514 is a part of. Ambitious? Sure it is GÇô but will to power is an asset here.

True, but in trying not to be bored, they do write their own story.
The history of EVE is littered with the largest wars gaming has ever seen, with wars taking months, costing billions, and leading to the downfalls of large empires. The fact that people in highsec will go online and read about it makes it a story in its own right.
Surely that's the same with life? You don't set out to write a story, but in trying to survive (and not be bored), you do, unintentionally, write one. In fact, I think a lot of movies are based off true stories. |
