Hey guys.
With the knowledge that lighting and atmospherics ingame are provided dynamicly, what weather conditions do you think would add to making the game interesting and different.
For me, I want to see sandstorms on barren planets, and not the ***** little breezes, I want to be almost blind and be forced to rely heavily on scanners and other teamplay. Something which also obscures vision this much would also change the effective range to something much shorter making SMGs and shotguns espically viable for this situation.
What about you guys? |

How about fighting under a heavy rain with a huge ass lightning storm raging around us? Sounds epic enough. |

yeh, and snow storms for the ice planets :) that would be pretty kickass. im sure there would maybe two or 3 weather states for each planets.
Calm, and then two planets specific effects. also, varying levels of wind effects would spice up piloting dropships for those important drops and effect ballistics for sniping and all that kinda stuff.
lets make a list.
Barren - Sandstorm Ice - Blizzard, Sleet Storm - Rain, Thunder Storm Plasma - this one has stumped me folks....suggestions? Gas - fog (of gas to effect vision) and another that i can think of. suggestions? Lava - with the immense heat, i dare say we would want that cool heat wobbled vision you see on hot days in the desert, smoke clouds aswell maybe? Temperate - Tropical variety. Sun, Rain, Storm etc.
randomly occuring events of course, but last a suitable duration to acts like a weather cycle. this is a persistant machine after all...it need to be alive :D not just switching from weather state to weather state in a snappy manner. any additions ot this list would be awesome to see cos i cant think enough into the gas or the plasma i dont think :S |

For me I think:
Barren - Sandstorm. Almost all visibilty lost, scanners less effective due to static Ice - Blizzard/whiteout. Like a sandstorm but white and does not affect scanners Storm - Monsoon, vision limited but not as much Plasma - Plasma storm, all purple and **** and lighthing, scanners almost useless Gas - Low-lying cloud, some visibility lost Lava - Heatwaves and smog, patchy vision imparement depending on area Temperate - Typical storms rain, thunderstorms also possible.
I'd like weather to have what would basically be wormhole effects

This. This would be amazing. Another idea for plasma could be a green haze that as it passes over leaves green/whatever color slime on the ground. Idk. Little strips of it, making navigating a bit difficult, as it would have some effect on your person. |

gas giants have the buildings floating in the planets atmosphere becase gas giants dont have solid surfaces (they're made of gas) and i think its outside of the weather so all the weather would occur below you |

I would rather weather effects be relatively minor. I kind of don't like the idea of gameplay being seriously affected because of something arbitrary, like a snowstorm or whatever. I'd prefer if weather was there for atmosphere and style more than for making it impossible to see anything more than 30 m away. |
