Change the 7 AUR-costing dropsuit colour-variants to cost additional ISK instead. Add sub-slots to weapon and dropsuit fitting areas wherein permanent colour schemes can be fitted at no power/CPU cost. The only stipulation is that colour schemes would need to be bought for [Arbitrary Number] AUR, and would be specific to the dropsuit or weapon they're purchased for. For even more AUR, throw together a nice in-game colour scheme maker and let people spend even more to get a colour scheme of their own design.
I think you would make a lot more money selling cosmetic stuff like this than charging for every time you use it.
Note: I totally did not steal this idea from World of Tanks. |

Of course you did not "steal" it from WoT, you are just borrowing it, right? |

I've suggested similar to this in a few threads in the past where CCP were being accused of "pay to win" and I never played World of Tanks.
Maybe I used vampire magic to steal their "secret" idea...? |

idk, i think some of the current AUR costs for "imaginary" items within a video game that will be lost whenever you die in game is a bit steep. i think every AUR item should be 2 for 1. Buy 2 of "this" for 1 AUR for everything.
except boosters, those are w/e. i also agree with charging AUR for something to be unlocked and available for ISK purchase thereafter. you know, since spending real money on things you'll never have or keep or touch in real life sounds like a waste to me. at least when its 7 AUR for each item. |

The obvious answer is that you are a genius who simply oozes amazing game ideas. |

I don't think we've seen a single item that even costs 10AUR
Which, if converted based on the US price, is less than US$0.05
I don't see a problem with paying FIVE CENTS for a digital item that dies when I screw up. Especially when there's minimal practical difference between using that item and one I can buy without spending real money. |

Five cents per death. Handful of deaths per game. Handful of games per day. How long do you plan to play Dust? You might find that those cents will begin to add up once you've found a dropsuit you really like and play it quite often.
It's also an issue of ownership. I find getting a permanent, especially custom, paint job on stuff is a really good way to make it feel more like "yours". It's the difference between playing Saints Row: The Third and taking a default character who uses default vehicles, versus customizing your appearance, pimping your ride, and so on. It's honestly a pretty old and compelling video game trope, and they would seriously make bank if they sold permanent paint jobs, especially custom ones, for vehicles and drop suits. Although simply having a wide array skins will do in a pinch.
And the last and I guess most apparent issue is that assigning paint jobs to variant dropsuits means that you'll either need to only have a few colour variants, which is boring, or you'll need to have a huge number of colour variants per dropsuit, per type, per tier. That's an awful lot of clutter. Simply selling paint jobs that you slot into dropsuits/vehicles/weapons would be far more streamlined. |

Well there's the usual New Eden rule: Don't use what you can't afford to lose.
Yes, there are a handful of deaths a game, and a handful of games a day. If you're bringing your real-money gear into every fight in every spawn and getting killed while using it, then I'm sorry, but you're doing it wrong. I don't even waste ISK gear on my first spawn of a match. I start out with Militia gear to get a feel for how the other players in the game are geared and skilled, THEN move on if I feel like it will be useful/necessary.
EDIT: I definitely want the ability to buy a permanent recolour for an item though... So I agree with at least PART of what you're saying. I think cosmetic changes should be permanent purchases, but special AUR gear should be once-off purchases just like the regular ISK gear is. |

I really am not very interested in talking about how I or you personally play the game, as I don't care much about that. This is about marketing stuff to players. I think this feature has been very successful in World of Tanks, and I imagine it would be equally successful in Dust. |

Actually they could up the price considerable of perm color schemes and those that play alot will buy them especially if that give you a way to make a custom color scheme... I can see it now corps requiring each of its members to buy the corp colors |

I like the idea of buying permanent color schemes and upping the aurum price. As it is I don't think may people will by individual suits that they are gonna lose just for cosmetic reasons. They could also just "license' the ability to make a custom paint job on a suit for like 60-90 days. This way people will be more willing to buy it and you still have that reoccurring payment that the current system has. |
