I've read quite a few posts at this point about LAV controls, HAVs being overpowered, and LLVs being nigh on impossible to use effectively due to the mechanics for locking on and operating the module.
I've seen some good idea to fix these things, but I also had one of my own: separate/redistribute the roles of the driver and passengers in a vehicle.
For a first example, delegate the operation of the remote repair modules in an LLV to the passenger. Right now, that seat is really only useful for getting from one place to another, and I've seen multiple requests to add the ability for the passenger to shoot. While I'm pretty much ambivalent on that point with the LAV, I think having the passenger handle the logistics functions in the LLV would increase its effectiveness, since the driver can then just focus on driving, allowing the vehicle to be a bit more mobile while allowing the passenger to handle the repairs. Even without a new control scheme, which I agree is needed, this would improve the usefulness of these assets quite a bit, in my opinion.
Second is something that I think some people aren't going to like: seperate the driver of an HAV from the main turret. Now, the reason I say this, is there have been some valid points made about how the HAV effectively allows a single player to dominate most of a map. There are many effective anti-vehicle strategies, and I don't think HAVs should be nerfed in any category but cost, which has already been confirmed.
See, the neat thing is, this change goes both ways. From the "victim" standpoint, the HAV would require at least two players to be functional, and its effectiveness would be determined by how well the two crewmen cooperate. From the "attacker" standpoint, the operator of the main gun can now focus solely on shooting, allowing the tank to manuever more effectively due to the dedicated driver. In fact, since there are already 3 guns positions on a tank, the driver could be given the front turret, allowing him to both drive and shoot, so that he remains a more active member of the crew.
That was my idea. |

I have little experience with LLV's, unless you mean something as simple as activating an armor rep module in a dropship, in which case I can say the control scheme is rather annoying since it prevents me from flying at full capacity for a moment (that crucial moment where your low armor gets you killed by some scrub with a wimpy assault rifle). As far as HAV's go, if I'm getting torn apart in a match, I'll usually call down my lil' ol' tank and rack up a couple kills before someone turns me into slag with a forge gun (again). I support your suggestion for separating the driver from the main gun. |
