opps, your right.

This and just don't care about dying. Losing a battle way more then winning. Even if you should have the upper hand. |

Oh, before I forget. Here is a helpful thought you should have; don't think "Oh this is a cool item.", think "Cool, gonna lose this real soon." |

Or be way to careful and run every time you see something move out of the corner of your eye. :) I managed to keep a corcoer (I think thats how its spelled?) for around a month and a half. Of course, I hardly did **** during that month and a half :P |

Heard there's actually one of the tutorial missions where you can complete it without first losing your ship, in order to teach you not to hold them too dearly. |

One thing to live by that -ALL- of these guys are either forgetting or do not (themselves) follow.
Never, ever, trust anyone in this game - anyone you meet, expect to have to kill at some point. There are no friends in Eve. There is only money and assets. |

Always keep your clone version up-to-date, you don't want to get cacked and find out you lost skillpoints because you didn't have the right grade of clone.
Keep your ship insurance active, at least you will get part of your money back when your ship goes boom.
Keep an eye on the local chat window, when it suddenly explodes with players then be thinking about being elsewhere in case its a roaming gang or a raiding party. |

Set directional scan for maximum range and constantly click it - whenever you see a ship that isn't yours on there; be prepared for trouble.
Alternatively if you see Combat Scanner Probes, you'll know they're searching for you.
Never leave your ship in a POS unless you're inside it - particularly in capital ships.
Never ever ever do anything in capital ships and not be aligned to something. Even daggers in the night can be your friend before they slip between your ribs. You will understand this if it ever happens to you. |

1 If you cannot afford to do it again dont do it. 2 Have a plan to kill everyone you meet, expect the same from them. 3 If you cannot defend it, you dont deserve it.

Learn to Die, and then learn how to prevent it from happening again. Dont get attached to ships. Dont autopilot with expensive cargo (I learned this because of a 2.6 billion isk mistake...) ESPECIALLY through high sec. Join a noob friendly corp ASAP, because playing alone is boring.
And thats about it, OH, and dont go straight for different ships, train your CPU and powergrid skills first, then armor/shield skills, and then go for the weapons, and THEN go for ships. Trust me, I made the mistake on that by training straight for a battleship and I kept dying in them to rats because I couldnt tank in them properly. |

Check out Red vs Blue or Eve University for helping them get you into PVP stuff.
Focus more on learning battlecruisers than battleships also, like someone said. Just because you can fly a ship, doesn't mean you can fly it well.
Also, search youtube for the Eve Alliance Tournament for fun PVP combat, you'll probably learn a good bit on roles within PVP there also. It's not the same exactly, but not a bad start. |

In my first few weeks as a newb I travelled to see the EVE Gate, since my character was young I took a shuttle since I didnt care if I died and didnt have much ISK to lose.
Almost died in the attempt but I got there on my sightseeing jaunt and made it back to my home base alive.
Point is: its a big cluster out there, and there's a lot of cool stuff to sightsee if you've got the stones to go. Take the time to enjoy that part of it, too. |

Or lose your shirt to a scammer.
Which reminds me, familiarize yourself with the common scams that go on daily in New Eden, and for gods sake dont fall for the old Goon Recruitment Scam, lol. This will keep you from getting screwed over - or give you ideas on ways to screw others over if thats what floats your boat. :) |
