CCPs choice or PSN bottleneck?
So far this seem like correct feedback:
Veigar Mordekaiser wrote:Just wanted to point this out... CCP and Sony came to an agreement with patching, CCP can push as many patches through as they want. They have to be able to do this because both EVE and Dust are going to be running on Tranquility, it's going to be one huge server, so they have to keep everything up to date. My guess is that there is some sort of fee involved in pushing a patch through, so until they're making significant income off of Dust, they are probably going to compile fixes into large patches so as to avoid wasting money on little updates.

QA generally takes 2-5 days of internal CCP QA and then 3-7 of Sony QA, barring issues. If they so chose, they could push out a build every 3 weeks or so. The problem with doing that, is that they only get a week or so of development time on the build to do that.
Their current sprints are somewhat longer, but not as long as they are in eve. They've been working in 6-8 week sprints or so for the last few builds. This lets them get around a month and a half of devtime before the build hits QA. It lets them work more efficiently this way.
They push out hotfixes or smaller fix builds when needed, and as it happens we should have a smaller build headed our way soon, as they've got it in QA now. They don't need to go through Sony QA for smaller serverside changes or minute tweaks to weapon attributes, for example. But for when they add new content or fix larger bugs, they still need to go through Sony QA. But it doesn't take too long. A week at most, if past patterns hold true. |

Yeah, I mean, it's not like they have to actually test things out and program things and fix bugs, or anything like that. |

CCP work on a constantly evolving internal build which they test themselves. I guess it takes them 1-2 months to get together a stable build to be send to Sony. Then it takes Sony about a month of QA and approvals for the new build due to PSN restrictions.
So that's about it. |

I just wondered. Because some fixes is minor and should make us testers see past those annyoing small bugs to see even more possible improvements for the game.
@Grit Glad that Microsoft don't have to QA to allow updates for games on PCs and that CCP have hade the new launcher. To bad Sony don't have that amount of trust to game developers to make more frequent patches to their games. If it's like you say Grit I hope it is possible for some change in the future. |

So when is the next build expected? The August release mentioned in the e-mail last week? Any info on what fixes/features we can expect? |

I guess what I meant is it isn't going to take 6 months to get even a small patch, like it does with BF3 and CoD and all that crap. I mean seriously, BF3 plays like **** on the PS3, and it took them like 6 months to literally fix nothing... I refuse to play that game now. CCP has had a few updates each of the past 3 weekends I've been playing. So they're doing more than other companies. |

The current build also added the "Loading/Validating files" on startup. That's another way around Sony which allows them full internal control over smaller updates, resources, balancing etc'. |

There isn't really any type of due date at this point. It could be next weekend that we get a huge patch, or it could actually be some time in August. The only thing we know for sure, is that there will be some type of big release in August, whether or not it's a new build is yet to be stated. It could just be adding more items to the current build.
Edit: Or would adding items be considered a new build..? Say we are on 2.x right now, would it be 2.y or 3.0? |
