We need something to make us less vulnerable. We already have to stop moving and crouch down to stop scope sway to even hope to hit our target. Scout armor can barely take any damage. and switching to a secondary weapon takes far to long and is way to weak to even consider using to win a fire fight. You can even just cut the no scope damage in half. |

Also, have you ever tried firing an assault rifle while moving? I'm going to assume you haven't, it's not exactly easy to stay accurate while moving slowly, never mind running. Trying to do so with a sniper rifle would be all but impossible. As it stands, the snipers handle extremely well, if you actually use them properly. You can also "no-scope" by quickly slapping the aim, firing, and releasing aim, while close to your target. It's not ideal, but it's there, if you're unwilling to equip a sidearm. SMGs are quite nice (I particularly am loving the one from the merc pack; the extra 20 rounds per magazine make all the difference).

Dude its just logical, if you're worried about CQC as a sniper use a side arm, the SMG is a DEADLY as F**k. Being able to no scope with a sniper rifle is the dumbest mechanic in the FPS genre. Since there is no accuracy while no scoping then its just luck if you hit the target, quick scoping on the other hand does take some skill, expect in CoD where the game aims for you. |

He's right though, realism isn't a reason to do much of anything. It's not meant to be realistic, it's meant to be fun. Snipers are really powerful at range, so for the sake of balance they give up power at close range. Give a little, get a little. No need for no-scoping as sniper rifles should not be powerful at close range for the same reason swarm launchers shouldn't be able to one-shot infantry. |

Realism or no, the issue here is this: making the sniper rifle viable for short range combat is a bad idea. It is a large, clunky piece of hardware, and the shear damage per shot would make it the new weapon of choice if you could always land a shot by painting a crosshair dot on your screen. The point of sniping is to pick off foes at a distance to cover your squad or defend your position. If you let them get close to you, you're boned for a reason. Plus, SMGs are known as Personal Defense Weapons in many games for a reason: low accuracy, high ROF, high clip size, the device is meant to spray at someone who got to close, or to cover a corner for suppression's sake. If you can't swap to it fast enough, might I suggest being more aware? |

I certainly haven't noticed any autoaim on Dust with a sniper rifle (and it's a non-issue since I'll be using a mouse in the next build). It's pretty excessive with assault rifles, though.

I dont know anyone able to realistically swing a gun larger than themselves to acrurately hip fire unless it was a shotgun.
Secondarly Quick Scoping is BY far the most lamest abuse of auto aim EVER. |

I never said it was an exploit in DUST, or that there weren't also a lot of games where it's not an exploit. What are you smoking? You can no-scope, it's not an instant kill and it shouldn't be. This isn't CoD. I no-scope fools all the time (right before I die usually, unless I get lucky or they stand still). Also, the SMG is a great sidearm, as has already been stated multiple times in this thread. |

I see minimal problems with the sniper rifles mechanically, in the game. I got used to the controls and the kills came flowing in more and more every match. I do wish there would be a better target box for the scope in sniper rifles though. Call it auto aim or not, but I loath when I miss a still target because my crosshairs were a SINGLE PIXLE from the target. Granted I can see the argument: "u miss the target u miss, realism!" I would request that the sniper controls were a little smoother when standing still, just so we can smooth the difference between hit and miss.
ALSO! Might be the wrong thread, and I haven't read too much into what I'm going to say but I'd like to see a sniper have a broader job on the battlefield than quick kills at a distance. Most snipers rock the scout drop-suit and with besides the individual bonus of being faster/ smaller radar signature/ distance weapon wouldn't it be nice to get a few team influenced bonuses??
PS. In the controls menu, Have a Look sensitivity AND crosshair sensitivity! |
