I started flying dropships today. So far only built myself a starter militia one for practice. Going quite well.
But one thing I don't understand is how to climb fast or in fact climb at all beyond a certain height. I saw a dropship sitting on a tower today and naturally wanted to tip it over... But it took me a very very long time to get up that high and I had to basically stand still and rock it back and forth just to gain a very small altitude each time. Is there a better way I'm missing or is it always that slow climbing high? |

Press L1 really hard, arc thrusters to push straight up off the ground.

It may sound weird but the harder you press L1 the faster you as long as your thrusters are facing the 6o'colck or 4o'clock positions. It due to the fact that the PS3 game pad is analog. |

Move forward to get your speed up, flip back a bit to get the thrusters down. You'll go up quickly for a bit. Enjoy your towers. |

Is this a bug in the game or my controller, because I have to press the L1 pretty damn hard to get it flying up. Last build it was much less pressure. |

I've noticed it seems to be harder to do near the towers and certain areas of the map. |

Accidentally landed on the MCC while someone was trying to knock me out of the sky. Figured out why no one does that. Apparently it's sloped so that even if you could hit anything from that terrible angle your dropship slides right off a lot of the time. Also, the angle is TERRIBLE. Was fun to take out my pursuer and drop from the edge of it though |

Oh I'm no tower-dropship-camper. I hate that technique and think anyone who uses it is really dumb. That's why I wanted to get up there and push him down... |

rock forward and back for some reason whenever you change your forward or back direction, the thrusters do more work, or something.
this is a good thing to know to counter tower campers |

Ta-da!
You have to press so hard on L1 after a while your thumb starts to hurt hopefully they make it more sensitive and less harmful to your thumb and your controller.

1 word: afterburner. You dont need the silly climbing tactic. Just get the skill that allows you to use them then in game while having a dropship (can be any modell) you press L3 (like if you want to sprint) and your ship can fly faster+higher. To get up to the towers simply hold the ship without moving and press L3+L1. You can even go up to the MCC. Also while beeing on top of the map (not towers) have a mobile CRU on the dropship and fly over objectives and let your team "drop in" from above. Works like a charm if you ask me. Another thing is with the afterburners you can dodge incoming swarms very easy. Just get some distance and hide behind a tower and listen how the rockets hit the tower instead of your dropship. In my opinion we should get points for team spawns if the vehicle has a CRU equipped. |

Double tapping L1 can increase climb speed, and as said above rocking back and forth can help climb steadily.
But pushing them off isn't good, tbh. Sitting up there with a sniper rifle or so is one thing. You're easily countersniped. Sitting up there in a dropship where the missiles of a swarm launcher will just hit the tower isntead of the ship is another. Best way to discourage people sitting up there with a dropship? Fly your own up, get out of yours, get into theirs and then fly it into the redline, bailing out before enters. They die, you live and snicker. Get back in your dropship and fly merrily along. If you're lucky, he might even complain about it over comms making it that much more hilarious.
A good community polices itself. If your teammates are doing stupid or lame stuff, take it upon yourself to make it unworth it to do so. |
