In eve online, players are able to get things called certificates were you can pick were you want to do specific task.
Quote:Certificates are only recommendations and serve as some useful guideline to the skills you may require to do a specific task or fly a specific ship. They do not prevent you from flying or doing a profession without having all the prerequisite certificates for it.
I think it would be a great idea if ccp thought about adding this kind of system to Dust 514, with the fact that its going to take 7 years to max out all skills and they want us to pick specific task in the game, this would be a great tool to give us to help new and old players pick areas they want and need to do there specific tasks.
This system/tool would also be great for when ccp add new skills and don't want to over load people with stuff that will get in the way of letting us pick were we want to go with our chars.
In no way does this system change game play or anything we can or can't do, it just lets us new and old players get a better idea of were we should be picking out skills if we want to do a set role on the field.
The certificates also allow potential recruiting corps get a general idea of what roles you are able to fill and how effective you are likely to be with them. |

i always thought certificates are a waste of time in eve, they are always an after thought, meaning i train skills i want and oh look i have some certificates. not the way they are intended, ok i want to armor tank so i will go for the armor tanker pro certificate, see what skills i need for this and then train the skills.
but maybe this is just me

I can see were some people don't rely care for them because they have an idea of were they want to go with some skills, but some new and old players like to have to small goal to aim for. Like lets say hey I need a beginner cert in shielding for my drop suit and I need some ideas of what skills I might need to get this thing started.
Great part about it is if you don't care for the system you don't have to use it at all

They're not entirely necessary, since you can just manually train into the appropriate skills for what you want to do, but they help less experienced players figure out a good skillset for their preferred playstyle. And some experienced players will probably find them useful as a guideline too, although you're less likely to care about getting them when you already know what you're doing.
I'm +1ing this idea. |

The certificates also allow potential recruiting corps get a general idea of what roles you are able to fill and how effective you are likely to be with them. So for that functionality I guess it's a +1 from me |

Yeah, I also dont find them very useful since they can yield training for skill not really needed for the especific piece f equipment you want to use.
The best way to train up fast is to see an equipment you want to use and train its pre-requisites.
I seldom wander on the certificates, I use it more when I dont really have a goal and then go about completing them just for the sake of having something training in queue.
Still, yeah, for new players especially those not acostumed with EVE interface and methods, they might be usefull and should be in. |
