With 12 year olds who cant shoot you down by using weapon systems or skill so they just kami kazi into you.....The problem, and the difference, with that game and this one, is this...That action(in that game) merely effects your kdr . BUT in this one (imagine if you will) you are flying your 350,000 ISK dropship and this is done to you. With a "militia jet(0 value)with a pilot wearing a "militia" dropsuit(0 value)killing you, your team/squad/clanmates all wearing there top notch equipment.I have no time for this..... some goof ball who plays the game and just wants to spend his saturday afternoon eating waffles with a bowl of syrup playing with an "alt" account and getting off (with perverse pleasure) on the fact that we are all spending money on our kits and because HE is an incompitent "hater" he'll just do this all day for the hell of it.....no thanks. You count me out...and when EVER I see anything regarding jets in the forums, and I have time to comment on it .IT WILL FOREVER BE THE SAME...NO JETS .Its moronic and reeks of stupidity ,and that I have no time for....I MEAN WHAT DO YOU THINK EVE IS........FLY A SHIP THRU SPACE......PLAY THAT GAME. It makes absolutely -no- sense not to have them. At all. This is a game about combined arms, and militia vehicles will most likely not be present at launch, meaning that using kamikaze tactics with a jet will likely lose you money at a psychopathic rate. There really isn't need for concern.
One thing of note, if jets were included, the battlefield would have to be significantly larger. Usually jets are sent in first, to achieve air superiority or to soften ground targets to allow for the ground troops to deploy and take the area.
I would envision jets operating as a first wave, taking advanced targets and having areal dogfights while troops fight a mile back, taking and hacking checkpoints. By the time slower tanks & hover gunships take the field, the fighters have already been through the area, taking out the air defenses, etc.
Suicide should be discouraged through various means, but not made impossible I don't think. Other jets should be able to see and take out an enemy jet from a ways off, keeping those that try to suicide at bay. If you run out of jets, then the suicides might be more prevalent, however I would think there should be some adequate ground to air defenses that would blow an incoming fighter up before it had a chance to fly into slower vehicles. |

Concerns I have seen in this thread are as follows:
1. Militia jets ramming proto squad dropships.
2. Map sizes currently to small for jets.
Solutions for these issues are as follows:
1. Militia vehicles are here for a few purposes: A) Stress testing vehicle counts on the servers. Spam all the vehicles we want, see if it causes lag, crashes, etc. B) Figure out exploits, graphical errors, and severe bugs related to vehicles. C) Determine balance between the highest level vehicles, and the lowest level vehicles. D) This is the most obvious reason that no one ever seems to think of - this build was made to show off Dust 514 at E3 2012. It would have been absolutely idiotic of CCP not to include a free vehicle button.
Now, due to the above statements, it is relatively easy to infer that militia vehicles will not be in future builds, or at least they wont be free.
Another point to make on this issue, as that you should not use, what you cannot afford to lose. If you are afraid of your shiny proto dropship and the squad held inside being killed by a kamikaze - who knows, someone might get paid to do exactly that in a corp battle - then don't fly your squad around in that dropship. Prices are going to go up on everything in the game, and prices will probably change quite a bit when we begin to see actual integration with the EVE economy.
2. We are in a very small area right now, as the player count is currently restricted to 12 vs 12. Red zones will be pushed out, and we will begin to see maps as large as 25km-¦. That being said, player counts will probably go up past the 24 vs 24 that has been announced, as we already know CCP is testing 64 vs 64 in house, as confirmed at FanFest 2012.
In the case that we do see the 64 vs 64 matches some day, I would hope to see some 20 or 40 man dog fights going on above a particularly hot district, and above that, 100 man fleet battles, raining hell on us with Orbital Bombardment, mercenaries firing back with the Skyfire Battery.
We are going to want more air warfare than just dropships, as they truly are not meant for air superiority, I for one think jets would be an excellent addition to the game. |
