At times I was known on the MAG forums for having the longest wall of text that was not useless chest thumping, it was a skill tree and set-up guide for the move and the sharpshooter.
Let me break this down for you, it is a BETA Forum; chances are that a few days before release this will all be locked and a new area created with sub-sections for clan or corp support - just like what happens with every other beta I have ever been a part of. Or moved over to the psn forums as a form of advertising the game to people who don't know about it, if it has a lot of traffic and stays on the front page, but since those forums underwent a return to Lithium it has been a mess.
The only people that actual care about the use of proper grammar are those still in school (be it student or teacher).
This is not for posterity, there won't be a History Channel Show about letters from the front lines of the Dust Beta. (queue up the south park thanksgiving aliens episode)
I type close to 140 wpm, so there is not always time to concern oneself with the proper use of words that are commonly misused as long as the statement is not altered to the point of being confusing.
Can you find the run on sentence, how about that dangling participle, this is not a game of mad libs......instead of proof reading the internet shouldn't you be organizing the sock draw by type, name, color and use?
All well and true, but if you want to convey your message in such a way that other players pay attention and perhaps swing to your views then the poster should consider writing with a modicum of attention to detail in grammar and spelling, as well as the actual content. I'm not saying that their posts should be acceptable as a doctoral thesis - I'm saying they should put SOME effort into it if they want people to pay attention to their ideas and concepts.
tl:dr - Don't let poor delivery ruin your message. |

This reads like a battle of wits between a teacher (probably from Quebec too, are you?) and an advertising copywriter. I found the your / you're initial post idea a true ray of grammar sun through the clouds of l33t d00dism.
Gymnius consider yourself properly congratulated for your effort at applying a vaccine to the plague of mishandled pronouns in a gaming context.

Gyrnius wrote:"Your" is possessive. "I blew up your Sagaris with my prototype forge gun" "You're" is a contraction of "you are." "You're right - blew my butt right out of my tank!" Please, MAG players especially, learn the difference. You're making fools of yourselves and REALLY detracting from what could otherwise be well-constructed posts worthy of further discussion. The truth is, I REALLY want to read players' insights into the game and how it could be improved. Terrible grammar, punctuation and spelling renders otherwise intelligent and thoughtful posts nearly unintelligible however. It makes it tough for me to take the posters of such drivel seriously. This undermines their credibility - if they can't take the basic effort of conveying themselves intelligibly why should I lend any braincells to their arguments? I figured a friendly PSA would, if nothing other than breeding a whole lot of hate against me, potentially help educate someone in such a way that their future posts are taken seriously. And those of you insulting me - thanks again for at least doing so intelligibly =)
1. "Terrible grammar, punctuation and spelling renders otherwise intelligent and thoughtful posts nearly unintelligible, however."
(Corrected: Please use a comma before the word however as I can't understand a single thing that follows due to my OCD...and it's just wrong.)
2. Brain cells = two words.

What about those that just can't get the rules for grammar to stick. |
