I'm not implying that this is good or bad, but between skills, fitting and the marketplace, I actually found myself working with a pen and paper planning my character out.
Now I have charts hung up in my room of what skills I want to raise in what order(This is far from linear), how far I want to raise them, priorities, how much it costs me every time I die on each loadout, what skills I raise will provide me the best benefits for the SP, DPS for each weapon, average performance for each weapon, graphs of my performance in certain vehicles and these charts go on for quite a while.
Is this intentional? I didn't mind, not at all. I actually got really into mapping this stuff out. But I'm not sure if console players will be getting into this like I did. |

what? how dificult it can be?
Focus. Chose an item to upgrade. Check pre-reqs, acumulate points, spend points, Check pre-reqs, acumulate points, spend points, Check pre-reqs, acumulate points, spend points, etc
The only thing you got to remember is the next step. And not even that, just press triangle on the item you want to wear.
Seriously, you making it complicated, The thing isnt complicated in itself. |

Without doing that, I found myself getting frequently lost, forgetting what skills I need, having to go back to the marketplace, then check to see if the cost is worth it, how many skill points I can manage to get, how I can make the best out of my time and then I ramble on for about half an hour more.
Writing all this **** down helped save me a LOT of time going back and forth and kept everything simple. It was around the time where I got to the tenth page of info where I started to realize that this was actually kind of complicated. |

i play eve, they have tools that do some of this for us, and from what im told, there are dust versions in development, but due to NDA, are not able to be released yet. but all this work and effort makes for a different experience from some of the 'big title' fps out there, and provides a degree of consequence to dust. it might not be for everyone, but i do feel that some people might be drawn to the depth and complexity. even as a long term eve player, having to work the fits on paper to decide what i need to skill/buy makes me feel like its MY suit, MY character, MY experience working.
also, its a matter of time before people start posting 'doctrine fits' such as : fit 2x advanced shield extenders in mids, 2x standard cpu upgrades low, prototype assault rifle, militia nanohive, requires following skills: electronics 4, shield upgrades 3 rifle proficiency 1. this is just random gear and skills off top my head from my notes from last weekend but you might understand what im saying |

@Lilianna : Welcome to New Eden. There's a reason some people call EVE "spreadsheets in space" On release, expect BattleClinic to start accepting dropsuit fits, and quite possibly skillplan tools. For now, use your notes to aid in testing and feedback to CCP. They will love your enthusiasm.
They didn't even throw us the Rubik's Cube yet! |

Heh, sure. I'll do that next weekend.
Maybe I should get back into EVE Online. Suddenly it sounds appealing. |

Seriously? Pen and paper? Listen, I know there's a lot to this game but it's not THAT complicated. Find a toy on the marketplace, look at prereqs, level up skills that are too low, have fun with new toy. It's not rocket surgery. |

the quote, "heres your rubix cube, go f**k yourself" has been attached to EVE Online and embraced by some of the CCP staff even.
CCP provides us with the tools and the location, prettymuch EVERYTHING else is up to us. how to play is for you to decide, but it definitely rewards the meticulous. the planning, the specialization, the dedication.
keep in mind we are recieving something like a 4x? multiplier to SP gains atm, CCP has stated it would take 7 years to MAX ALL skills in dust, and EVE is even longer, i recently learned that the first person to max ALL spaceship command skills in EVE has just happened in the last year or so, using neutral remap, a 3,015 day(8.2 years roughly) skill plan, 2,412 days(6.6 years roughly) with +5 implants and im not going to try sorting that queue to have optimal remaps cause im lazy but i think you get the point. that is ONLY the spaceship command skills and their bare minimum prerequisites. add in all the actual tanking skills, and the gunnery/missile skills. |
