Hi everyone! IGÇÖm one of many players, who was invited to last beta weekend in Dust 514, and I want to share with you guys some of my thoughts. I hope it will be interesting to read))
Episode 1. Phantom Menace.
At first, a few words about my GÇ£beta testing configurationGÇ¥. I used, as always, standard DualShock controller, without any headsets, cameras, PS Moves or other stuff. I live in Russia, but, thanks to CCP and Sony, my god-forsaken country is GÇ£in the listGÇ¥. System language is also set to GÇ£RussianGÇ¥.
And here it is - first little, but annoying bug. At starting screen, where you need to enter your email, I got stuck. GÇ£XGÇ¥ button simply does not work, so I canGÇÖt GÇ£acceptGÇ¥ my email. Pretty fast I fixed it - the problem was in system language. By the way, Dust514 were partly localized in russian...or it seems to be localized. For example, at the starting screen GÇ£OGÇ¥ button were titled as GÇ£-í-ƒ-É-öGÇ¥. Want to know what does it mean? Me too.
So, after switching sys language to English, Dust 514 finally started.
Episode 2. Out-of-battle impressions.
This beta weekend is my first experience in Dust 514. In the same time, I playing GÇ£from time to timeGÇ¥ in EVE, and I must admit - learning curve for EVE pilots in Dust 514 as flat as 8-bit games. Character sheet, market, star map, whole neocom - everything feels very native. Even new skill training system learns on-the-fly. What about everyone else, who doesnGÇÖt play in EVE...well, nevertheless Dust 514 interface looks like GÇ£EVE for teenagersGÇ¥, IGÇÖm afraid newcomers will be shocked. Especially here, on PS3 )).
Episode 3. In-battle impressions
Whoa... IGÇÖll be honest with you guys. I do not love FPS on consoles. I canGÇÖt replace good-old keyboard and mouse with controller of any type. Here a few FPS titles, however, were actually feels and plays nice (like Metroid Prime series) - but most of them are single-player FPS. So... may be this is question of practice, but in Dust 514 I feel myself as a disabled war veteran. And thatGÇÖs not funny. All this tactics, movements on the battlefield, vehicles requesting, hacking of any type - everything ruines by a control scheme. I heard that Dust 514 will support K & M control, so I hope things will get better, eventually.
Episode 4. Post-game impressions
ItGÇÖs clear like morning espresso - beta version is beta version. Especially in Dust 514, where macro- and micro- gameplay must twist and fuse with each other, and right now there is simply no way to taste this feature. What about already available stuff in Dust514 - itGÇÖs sad, but fitting and market transactions are much more interesting than an awkward gun-action.
Episode 5. A new Hope.
A little word to CCP devs personally. Dust 514 - itGÇÖs a god-damn fantastic project. In the age of faceless and endless GÇ£call-of-halo-gears-of-honorGÇ¥, Dust 514 feels like a fresh air in the game industry. Sure, imho, hereGÇÖs still a lot work needs to be done. But we will wait as long as need, because only this type of projects can push an entire industry forward. Thank you!!!
