It a minor point but I really don't like the gun sights, I'd much prefer iron sights or normal scope like in other FPS games rather than the full screen sight like Dust has at the moment. Its not very aesthetically pleasing & I feel it spoils the immersion quite a bit, it just adds to the feeling that your not firing a real gun, it just seems to abstract. I don't know if you plan to have weapon attachments but if you did perhaps a full screen scope view could be just one attachment & you could have regular scope types as well?

Well I thought similar to you at first, until further thought and discussion on the topic. Really it would make little to no sense to have iron sights in Dust. If you look at your dropsuit, there are no eyeholes. Everything you see is via advanced cameras on your suit. Also if you look at most weapons (mass driver, and sub machine gun are the two exceptions I can think of), they do not have sights or scopes. They have a camera where the scope goes. When you aim 'down your scope' you are really switching your camera feed from helmet to gun camera. |

The sights are fine with me as its similar to the fish-eye scope from Warhawk. |

the mass driver has 'iron' (probably not iron) sights |

I do see your point & it makes total sense but I still don't like the current system. It would just 'feel' better to aim down sights/scope, it feels weird right now, just my personal preference thats all. |

Not had time to test all the weapons and stuff, but the problem I've had with sights is lack of individual HUD for each weapon. I take the point about using cameras, but visually it's unappealing.
There was a similar problem with the early Starhawk beta,so it could be the art isnt ready, but some individuality would be nice.
An example would be a XYZ bar graph on the sniper, that corresponds with were your pointing. That It could add a tactical element. The sniper could call out troop/squad bearings and distances. It would probably never get used by most, but the best snipers and teams could use that info in cool ways, and attempt to give snipers a secondary role. |
