I'll get straight to the point:
Assault Rifles
The way they were balanced in the beta I played this weekend discourages the use of anything other than the standard assault rile.
The Burst Rifle should inflict at least the same damage per shot as the standard assault rifle.
The Tactical Assault Rifle (The semi automatic) Is also rather underpowered, given the fact that it is semi-automatic. I would like to see it inflict much higher damage pershot, BUT it should also have greater recoil per shot, for the sake of balance.
Overall, there were no advantages to using these rifles over the standard default assault rifle.
Submachine Guns
I really like the design of the SMGs in Dust, especially the flip-up iron sights and the muzzle flash effect. That being said, I found them to be virtually USELESS. The muzzle flash obstructed my ability to see whether I was getting any hit-markers in the aim reticle.
I had a very difficult time killing anyone, as did opponents using SMGs. In a stroke of luck, I found someone who appeared to have stopped playing for whatever reason. I fired my SMG at his clone at very close range (less than 1 meter). It required many seconds of constant fire and almost all of my magazine to kill this single opponent who wasn't even fighting back.
I'm not sure whether it's the low accuracy or damage, but the SMGs will need a significant change in their stopping power.
Shotguns
The standard shotgun was an ok weapon, but I switched to the Breach shotgun for increased power per shot. It was very fun to use. However, I found a bit of a glitch in its reloading sequence. As soon as the reload animation began, even before the first shot was loaded into the gun, the HUD icon would show one shot as being loaded, even though it wasn't. So, if you stopped reloading and had to sprint, for whatever reason, the HUD would show that you had one shot loaded, even though your shotgun was, in fact, empty. On several occasions I charged an opponent, only to see the reload animation start again.
Sniper Rifles
The odd thing about the sniper rifles was that most of the available models in the beta placed an emphasis on LOW damage rather than high damage. The only model I enjoyed using was the Charge Sniper Rifle, though there was no carge meter on the HUD, though that's probably b/c of the fact that this was a beta.
SO that's the end of my little rant about my experiences with the weapons during my weekend with the beta.
What are your thoughts? I would really like some feedback on my suggestions! |

I actually really liked the smg, but I used the breach smg. You had to be close, but I got way more kills using it than the assault rifle. I don't know which smg you used, but the descriptions of the breach said low RoF and high damage. Since the only time I really used it was in close combat, I found it really fun to use. I found myself switching to it as soon as I spawned if I was heading into an objective that I knew was hot. |
