So a few hours into playing DUST yesterday I realized that there is actually a squad leader in each game. At no point did the game tell me that, and furthermore not a single person issued any commands in my first 3 hours of gameplay. Suddenly 3 hours into playing, I ended up on a team where someone was giving instructions.
I had no idea how to do this myself, but after some experimenting I realized that this is done through the map that's accessible during battle.
A few suggestions for this feature.
1: Mark squad leaders for teammates. This may seem like a useless feature but it's not. For a lot of new players that don't know what to do, knowing who to rally around might be helpful. I have no idea how squad leaders are currently assigned. But it should be done in some way that a more experienced player is assigned.
2: As mentioned in the bugs forum, the entire feature isn't working properly at the moment. Being unable to mark specific objectives is detrimental to being able to give quick instructions. I end up having to rally troops to A instead of just marking A as an objective. Not to mention that you have to toy around with it because rallying never occurs where you want it to.
3: Does using the command feature even give you any experience? It would be nice if it gave you kills assists for marking enemies. Perhaps it could give you command assists if a location that you marked is hacked or successfully defended.
4: I'm not sure if it has been mentioned before, but what about text from squad leaders appearing on screen. I know the screen would be spammed if everyone had this ability, but being able to clarify instructions, or give tips to someone who is new could be useful.
5. Probably the most crucial request I could make would be to delay the lag between switching from your first person view to the map. It should be as instantaneous as possible. Especially with the current spawn camping fad I often die in spawn before I can enter the map and return to battle.
Anyways that's just some of my thoughts on the whole feature. Does anyone else enjoy this ability? Any other possible changes you would make?
