Before the patch I played mostly heavy cmg/forge and sniper however after the patch I decided just to go straight forward heavy and omg has it been fun!
I use assault forge prototype now and any changes made between the patches has not affected how many kills you can get with that monster. Admittedly it's harder when infantry get close to you now as you can't just random aim at their general direction and pull the trigger.
At a range though the weapon is a beast. I have more luck getting sniper range kills with the forge weapon than I had with the proto sniper rifle, the damage is just so insane.
All in all the weapon feels maybe a bit too accurate at long ranges and the power of it makes the user feel like he is Zeus hurling bolts of lightning across the battlefield smiting anyone in range.
Especially now that the cmg feels useless forge has really become my number one infantry and vehicle destroying weapon of choice. |

I spent the past 2 months training dropships, was useless. Now i was playing around with forge gun. That thing is amazing especially when you hit noobs that dunno how to pilot anything other than default vehicles lol.
I find the forge gun (basic one) very hard to kill infantry with though.
Is that because its a low tier weapon or is there a certain way to fit to become effective?
Chain gun is totally useless. |

Musta, do you feel that forge gun can be used for solo work, or does forge wielding heavy need support from rifles?
I would personally appreciate any mechanic which encourages co-op with different suit types.
(BTW, after last reset I also decided to try the heavy - ESPECIALLY after weakening them as less people are likely to use 'em now=) |

You won't instantly kill infantry with this unless you directly hit them, which is pretty difficult even for those who use it a lot. The splash needs to hit them at least two times to kill.
The old reticle needs to come back though, and the screen shake needs to be increased. |

I always use the assault version and 2x damage enhancers of what ever level I can manage to fit. Infantry kills are highly situational, in that if they are running at you in a straight line they are fairly easy to mow down but if they are zig zagging it becomes increasingly difficult, likewise if they are very close to you.
At close range I just swap to pistol most of the time unlike pre-patch where I'd just aim at their feet and let 'er rip. The extra damage from higher tier forge weapons haven't been amazing or anything for me personally, it's just made taking down tanks a little faster. |

In my experience it's perfectly viable for solo work to a certain extent, sometimes I play a bit like a sniper with the heavy but with a lot more firepower and versatility. For instance, I like to get on an overlook and keep enemies pinned down or wait for the lone tank / light vehicle and just take em out at a distance. People drive surprisingly straight when they are in the open, just have to get your timing right, especially on the assault forge. A min or two of this and things quiet down so I either head for a restock of ammo or get a vehicle and drive to an objective.
The good thing about heavy is you can hop out of a vehicle near an objective and hack it without having to worry about a little stray fire. Of course jumping into a cluster of +2 infantry with forge and pistol is a bit suicidal and a good way to get your ass handed to you.
So long answer short, yes you can solo (lots of matches with finishes in top 3 personally with just heavy) but you have to be smart about it and try to keep engagements at a favorable range for yourself. The best thing to do though, is to do what you're suppose to do: provide fire support for your team and make the enemy weary of bringing in vehicles near your area. |
