THE PROBLEM:
I've played multiple games today where the other team positioned tanks to blow up people as they spawned. I've also seen remote explosives used. Having a single spawn point for each objective is simply not enough. These spawn points need to be MUCH more randomized, and preferably locations not only where no enemies are located but ALSO where no enemies are looking/aiming.
Spawning and instantly blowing up or taking a four AR rounds before you can even turn 90 degrees is a sure way to ruin a game for everyone, especially fickle FPS shooters.
This really needs to be fixed.
MY SOLUTIONS:
Another option besides randomizing spawns on the ground would be giving the player some measure of control for over the precise location where they spawn. I think it would be awesome for attackers to spawn inside the MCC and then free-fall, using inertial dampeners to land safely. If the player could direct his "flight" slightly it would be even more awesome. He could theoretically direct himself to land behind the spawn camping tank instead of in front of its turret.
In situations where the map is totally dominated by the other team, a cool option (especially for defenders) would be allowing players to spawn IN ORBIT (on some corp-controlled station presumably) and having them free-fall from there. (note: I realize the physics here would be questionable. Go ahead and flame me anyways) The spawn time could be a little bit longer if the players choose this option, and during the 20-30 second spawn timing, showing the view from free-fall (with an option to switch to the overview map during flight) would be awesome. It would give the player a lot of perspective for the scale of the conflict(s), which CCP seems interested in doing.
Thus, the advantage of spawning on the ground would be quicker respawn. The advantage of spawning on MCC or in orbit would be more control of spawning/landing location.
OTHER FEEDBACK AND STOKE-TITUDE:
Other than that though, CCP, I'm very happy with how much progress you seem to be making with your builds. I'm notoriously fickle when it comes to gaming - I jump from game to game and get bored very easy. That hasn't been the case with Dust. I think that the fact that as I play I am investing in something that persists beyond a single game is the reason. Right now this "investment" is only in the skill points of my merc. This will almost certainly be the case even more when I'm in a corp and we're fighting for ISK, territory, and galactic domination. SO STOKED!
Congrats. You've successfully addicted me.

I too have been in a few games like this. It can be a real killer in terms of enjoying a game. When you end up with spawn, dead, spawn, dead,spawn.... You get the point.
I think MAG's Spawns were the best I have seen, where you spawned inside a raised barrack.
I think there should be a 5 second immunity as well, to at least give us a chance to get out of the crowd. |
