Whenever I die and I'm waiting on the countdown timer, I always feel like it takes a bit too long. I don't think it actually is too long, more that after going through the menu to pick my class and decide where to spawn I don't want to have to wait any more to get in to the game.
In addition to this, a small issue with the game at the moment is that most people don't seem to realise you can be revived by team mates, so not many people try and those few who do make the effort never have time before people bash the suicide button.
I have a suggestion to move the countdown timer from the spawn screen to the suicide screen.
As soon as you select where to spawn and select your loadout, you appear in game, and as a result the game feels much more fast paced and you feel like your getting in to the battle faster.
The 5-10 second countdown timer is added to the death screen, so you have to wait a little while for the suicide button to appear. In this short time period, people who wan't to heal team mates have the chance to do so without the other player suiciding out instantly.
I feel if this is implemented it could really help add to the cooperative gameplay.
It will make a lot more people realise you can be revived when they first start the game, will justify the purchase of the items you need to revive people, and will encourage people to stick close to each other more often. Especially when you consider that you don't have to lose any equipment if somebody manages to revive you. |

Yeah, I could see a mix of the two working. I'm just thinking that, say in your average multiplayer game, it probably takes about 10-15 seconds to respawn.
You have the death scene where you look at your corpse or a kill-cam for a few seconds, then a 5-10 second countdown to respawn.
Dust not only has the countdown, but also the map where you select your spawn location (and usually it's a good idea to take a look around the map first to get an idea of what's going on so your not going to spawn and instantly get slaughtered) as well as selecting which loadout you want to use.
Splitting up the timer into two smaller sections might make it feel as though your being forced to wait longer even though it's the same amount of time.
e.g: people from the UK always find it absolutely horrible watching TV in America (me and my family did at the very least) because there are two advert breaks instead of just one. The show is the exact same length, but it just feels incredibly irritating to us having to wait through two breaks rather than the one. |

I have the same feeling. I tried to revive people and only manage to revive 2 people successfully. The yelled for a medic would be nice too so to alert any nearby medics. |

Every time I wait for someone to revive my character, the medics just end up running past me. Oh well, it should get better eventually. Most of the time I do tend to just hit the suicide button though... |

Maybe a floating icon above characters you can revive? A circle with a cross in it or something so you know where everyone is.
Then if they do add the countdown to suicide, maybe the icon could show how long you have left to reach them before they have the option to kill themselves?
It would also me nice if you still had the ability to move your head whilst on the floor, so you could look around and see if there was anybody around you. Then maybe in that view, allies with healing items could have a symbol as well, so if you see one sprinting towards you and the timer runs out you know not to suicide. |
