I am incredibly sorry if this has been answered in another thread, but here goes.
I was just wondering if weapons and body armor would be faction specific in the final build of the game. I feel this would add another layer of faction loyalty and differentiation. To elaborate, MAG had PMC specific weapons and armor, I was wondering if Dust would be the same. I think it may; remember the Caldari Blaster video from a few months back?
I'm tired of looking at my generic assault rifle!
On a related note: CCP, you guys nailed this latest build. Having a blast playing it and I look forward to the final build! |

Like eve online there is no factional restrictions.
Which is helpful in the beginning for dust 514 limited time span before release as introducing 3 more assault suits and 3 recons and 3 logis and 3 heavies would be a bit more daunting and determential for a stable game. From the looks of it there will not be factional sysmetry at the start either.
If eve is anything to go by they will eventually meet factional symetry in eve's beta only caldari and amarr where available.
They are probably going to start adding in standings and npc factional reputation system in which unlike world of warcraft its nearly impossible to cap everyone because working for one faction pisses the other off. Working for a faction grants access to thier loyalty store which offers thier special issue gear for example an amarrian templar order heavy suit for example may be the best gear isk could buy but you get it at a LP discount.
So expect at least similar but different gear for each faction eventually.
Gallente are typically brawlers that get in your face fast and eat if off. They are also going to probably be the least untraditional of all races with thier drone use. Thier art style is a bit of a mix between french decor and function made into elegant form.
Minmatar are excellent hit and runners They used to be slap it together and make it work sort of people but lately they've been upgrading from rust to cardboard but it still pays hommage to shoddily put together or repurposed technology. Would not surprise me if you find the heavy machine gun as a light turret for vehicles.
Amarr are just heavily armored stem rollers, speed isnt thier thing, neither is stopping for anything not worthy of thier god. Amarr likes things in arches and gold.
Then the Caldari, high tech and best tech name of the game using advanced concepts that should be overkill on traditional way things are done Art style is that of pure efficency, they dont belive in comfort because every isk spent twoards killing the enemy is better spent than an isk to make sure the arm pit of the assault suit doesnt itch or the helmet is the right size.
And just because you fight for one faction doesnt mean you cant get access to the items on the lp store still if they open market items that are even bought with aurum should be resellable for isk.
There are of course player made factions as well... |

Ok, that makes sense. I apologize, I have no EVE background haha.
So if I play Gallente, I have access to every weapon in the game (essentially), be it Caldari, Amarr, Minmatar or Gallente?
I guess that's actually for the best, thinking back to MAG's weapons, they were quite unbalanced. My arsenal will just be all that more massive in the final game. |

Yup also expect later on when factional symetry is better met for suits and vehicles to start having bonuses twoards thier factional favorite weapon systems for example gallente tanks getting bonuse for blaster or railgun use. While caldari tanks get bonus twoards missile launcher and railgun use. |

I'm personally against the idea of faction specific weapons, and if there's something I really hated about MAG, its that faction specific weapons. I like how Dust 514 lets you buy anything and everything. You always end up with those imbalances when you've faction stuff. |
