For the past 11 years I have been getting no more than 5 hours of sleep every night, and for the last two years no more than 4 hours with the occasional 3 or 2.
After an intervention and a long session with a doctor I have decided to defeat this. However, I made this decision a month ago and have tested out the waters, as it were, to see how I would react to going 100% on this.
In two seperate nights I got 'sufficient' sleep at 7 & 8 hours, respectively. However, both times I reacted with persistent anxiety and depersonalization. I felt as if I wasn't myself either mentally or physically. There were moments that I felt like I wasn't controlling my actions or thoughts, to the point that I felt momentarily trapped both by my body and half of my mind. In these moments I grew abruptly paranoid of my situation and had an extreme urge to commit myself to vigorous exercise in order to prove that I still had full control of myself, as a reality check. However, neither times did I entertain these urges and therefore simply sat still and consciously screamed internally in defiance of it all.
Both times the symptoms stopped after returning to my regular sleeping cycle.
Now, however, I have chosen to see this all the way through to the end. No breaks, no regrets and no backtracking. Whatever the outcome is I shall embrace it.

Wish you the best. Sleep is probably the hardest thing to regulate. I have no advice except try an adjustable bed. I've never slept all the way through the night since I was a baby, 22 now. I still don't get more then 5 hours a night if i sleep at all. But with the adjustable bed i can at least get comfortable enough so i don't wander the house at night. Some people just don't need to sleep a lot either.

I always slept normally, until I started taking anti-depressive tablets... When I started taking them, I slept 12 hours straight. Then, later on, I started having awkward dreams. Nowadays the dosage is low but I still sleep 10 hours without breaks, you can wake me up, but I can't get out of bed, I feel woozy and unstable, until exactly 10 hours since I took the last tablet have passed.
Cappuccinos help wake me up faster though, makes sense since it's caffeine, but I still have weird dreams... this night I dreamt my grandma was driving me in a car, and she almost crashed it, so I took control and...CRASHED IT -.-

Ever since that job where I was 1 week on nights and the next week on days always 12 hour shifts, my sleeping pattern has been difficult to control.
Also, watch out for the sleep paralysis, had that a few times (usually down to stress) can be a bit worrying the first few times it happens. Always keep your nerves in check before you go to sleep, lol. |

o7 I have had an interesting history with sleep. Back in my uni days, my daily cycle would be something like 26 hours long, and I would end up going to sleep just before sunrise. Depending on circumstances, I would then either sleep through the day, or if I didn't get to sleep before sunrise, would stay awake all day and go to sleep at night, sort of jetlagged.
More recently, my daily cycle seems to have shortened to about 22 hours, and I will be waking up at 4 or 5 am, after what is generally inadequate sleep. In an attempt to sleep later, I tried going to bed later, but still woke at 4 or 5 am. Eventually I just gave into it and went to bed after sunset. I still woke at 4 or 5 am but I was at least well rested. I still have occasional bouts of waking at 4 or 5, but largely these days I just sleep through. |

No i don't. I just obsessively Google various medical issues since doctors are baffled/DGAF and repeat it back verbatim at the slightest trigger. My sleep wake cycle is literally screwed. Also, SLEEP PARALYSIS. I have that occasionally and it. Is. Absolutely. HORRIFYING.
It's worse then body positional vertigo. While vertigo makes it so you feel like you're falling inside your head, your still mobile and responsive. With paralysis, your still aware you just can't respond to stimuli. And no one knows you can hear them.
Also, if you can't sleep, find a healthy snack to eat so you don't get hypersensitive to blood sugar. My blood sugar rarely crashes, but i still get that feeling when i go too long without food. It's like your body is slowly shutting down and everyones talking through a tunnel.
And doctors wonder why I 'still' have meltdowns. Sorry! Ranting over. Here's a smile.
