Did you ever get around to seeing Alien: Covenant? Thoughts?

I did. Reviews seemed 50/50 as to love it/hate it.
First, I'm a total Alien nut. I watched Alien and Aliens when I was a kid and have been hooked ever since. So much so that I've made my 12yo nephew a fan of the franchise (probably more by force, than his own free will but such that it is, he's now a fan too). He said he liked sci-fi. He implied that he liked horror. So I bought him the Alien Quadrilogy and we binged one weekend. He kept asking questions about the structure in the original Alien ship, so I bought Prometheus. He's caught up except for Covenant.
Some of them are great, some are pretty damn bad, but I endure as a fan and try to take each for what they are.
As to Covenant, I liked it more or less. I won't give anything away, but the thing I was most disappointed with was that they didn't really go into anything more with the Architects introduced by Prometheus. I thought that would have been cool, but the fans revolted and I guess they tried to bring things back more in line with the alien creatures.
Characters seemed slightly more intelligent in their decision making skills than in Prometheus. Plot takes a weird mad Frankenstein/Isle of Dr. Moreau vibe which was kind of out of nowhere, but if you could look past the two idiots getting lost in a cave in Prometheus, then I guess you should be ok here. Too, it was pretty creepy and that was interesting at least.
I really liked Prometheus, btw. I was pissed off the first time I watched it because of the idiot choices characters were making, but later I figured they were hired to be disposable anyway. As long as they were competent enough to get the basic job done, Weyland didn't care. All a means to an end for him.
Covenant has some really nice parts, but kind of falls apart some if you try to think about it =\
Pretty much what this guy says: Spoilers. I only suggest watching this AFTER you've seen the movie. Like with any Alien flick, I think it's best enjoyed on the big screen. Regardless of any flaws it may have. Just IMO.
3.75/5? MAYBE a 4, depending on what you were expecting.
