Here are some improvements I would like to see for the HUD in Nova:
On the left side of your screen I would like to see your squad members listed by name, numbered, and with small health bars.
On your mini map I would like to see little numbers on the dots that represent your squad members. This can be augmented in PC to a two digit number, the first being the squad number, and the second being the position in the squad list.
I would like to have the squad list number displayed over the head of each squad member in your field of view.
The above augmentations allow you to quickly identify a player for communication purposes. While a name can take up too much visual space to have it labelled over the character or on the map, a number is small and will fit both on the map and over the character. This allows you to shout warnings on comms to a specific person GÇ£hey 3 your got a shotgunner on your six!GÇ¥ There were so many times when playing DUST that I would want to warn a squad mate of a danger but was unable to identify which squad member it was I was looking at.
I would like to have a proper compass with N, S, E, and W listed. Even better if an azimuth is given.
GÇ£Sniper on the hill to the North East!GÇ¥ or GÇ£Sniper on the hill at 45 degrees.GÇ¥ (Basically with Azimuth North is 0 or 360, East is 90, South is 180, and West is 270.) The compass graphic that CCP Peanut mocked up in his Legion work looked good.
I would like for every squad member, not just the squad leader, to have the ability to point at an enemy and press a button to highlight that enemy for the rest of the squad, so you can point out threats or direct focus fire.
Anything else you guys would like to add to the HUD?

I was thinking about signals for all squad / team members. Something in the lines of : you press this combination of buttons to give a signal (a color or an icon next to your name). Signals being : I need backup, I need ammo, I need health.
Next to your name on the squad list, a letter representing the objective you are close to.
A different colour of your cross hair or something that indicates how much % of damage are you going to deal over x distance (100-75%, 75-50%, etc.)

I'd like having the Enemy Intel thing to be larger and to stand out more when ADS. Maybe have it be yellow, or orange. This way, it'll come up to the player's attention and actually use that information to decide whether a target is worth engaging or not. I feel like not a lot of people actually made good use of this gimmick in Dust.
Also, having your faith bar pulsate green when being healed is a good idea.
Hmm, probably having the charge icon closer to the cross hairs as well, as well as a sound indications, such as beeps, rather than having to actually learn their charge times by instinct. For example, it would beep twice when the gun is fully charged, kind of like the the Swarm Launcher. As for the visual representation, it could be a half semi circle below the cross hairs that turns red, like how it used to be before, but rather than have it make a full circle, make it smaller.
I do like your squad party ideas, too :)

Other good suggestions, with my added flavor:
(Mejt0) Status signals. Buttons for "Need Reps", "Need Ammo" etc. This causes an icon to appear next to your name in the squad list for all your squad mates.
(Mejt0) Color change or some other indicator on your cross hairs to indicate whether your target is in Optimal range, Effective range, Ineffective range, or completely out of range. Or, alternatively the percentage of your normal damage that you will do at this range.
(Joel II X) Green pulse on health bar when reviving reps.
(Joel II X) Charge indicator close to the cross hires. Also sound queue to let you know it is charged. Make sure sound queue is in sync with charge. (Forge gun sound worked great in DUST if unskilled, but when your charge time got faster as you skilled up, the sound effect got out of sync with the charge time.)
Anything else you guys would like to add to the HUD?
I like the sound of all this.

Give the ability to turn on a pitch ladder. Why you may ask? Why not!? It looks cool. And it may help tell squad mates about vertical threats: if there are multiple buildings of various heights and a Sniper is on one of them you can give the exact location with azimuth and pitch. Yeah, it's silly, but why not I say?
The ability to turn your reticle a different color would be great. Personally I prefer to have it lime per example.

make squad member names/icon pulsate and glow when taking fire (red), and change color depending on health levels. (green, yellow, red)

If Nova carries over the same minimap/decibel function as we had in dust, please mark the lowest decibel you can pick up on each ring of the minimap. For tactical reasons and nerd reasons, and simply because it always annoyed me that you didnt get to see the exact numbers in Dust, it took math, often on the fly, when switching suits, to figure out how close you had to be to what to pick it up on your minimap. The number markings could be extremely small, dont need to take up much space, just simply enough to be referenced.
As a sidenote, has anyone squeezed any info out of Rattati about if we're keeping the same decibel detection system we had in dust? Or at least something very similar?
I'm Git Gud and I'm a recovering Dust addict.

But how long did it take you to figure that out, and would you have had time if you had just grouped with the guy for the first time and gone into battle?

There used to be time on the war-barge, but probably not enough time after public barge time was nerfed. In that case, they'd probably just be referred to as "skraab."

GÇó Old 'got shot' hud change. The Skrillexy type one made me not panic cause looked so goofy. The old reddish hud change, especially when shaking hands with Death, had a sense of visual urgency. GÇó Photon gear users should have a special symbol on the minimap

Customizable Commo Rose, different levels of Commo Rose depending on position(squad lead, grunt, FC). Depending on the command it can appear on chat and/or display icon above target/unit(for example mark, heal, destroy). If available also have voice over of command(optional), and if you have the compass it can work with it to highlighting the direction where the command is coming from/needed. So for example, if a squad leader is looking West and they go to the Commo Rose and selects "Cover West"(optional voice over would be "We need coverage on West"), squad mates will receive a green highlight on their compass from that direction, and blueberries will receive a blue highlight from that direction. Depending the distance players are from the location of command, the highlight on the compass will change in strength, becoming dim or invisible if too far, however squadmates will at least see a dim light no matter how far they are.

This is by far the most important thing that needs including... Also, everyone should get free photon gear, otherwise it'll be imbalanced. |
