Ok, if I understand what is being proposed correctly we will be able to make a bunch of fits, letGÇÖs say 30 or more, but there will be a smaller grouping of fits that we can access while in a match, letGÇÖs say 5. So when we are not in match we can change which of our 30 suits will be in the group of 5 active suits we can access during a match, but once the match we are stuck with the 5 we have setup.
I think I like this arrangement. Say, if you normally play an HMG Heavy, you can have 2 or 3 versions of that specialty, but also have maybe a counter sniper suit, and an infiltrator suit to deal with specific situations that come up. It still allows some versatility that way, but makes you work on refining the suits you setup for specific roles. It becomes a bit of a meta game coming up with the most versatile active suit set. Or you can just focus on aspects of one role and not feel guilty if another role is needed because you donGÇÖt have a suit for that.
With this setup, it would be nice if when you are added to the team for a battle if you could see what map you will be playing on and who you will be playing against, like when we were waiting on the warbarge before a match in the early days of Dust, only with a map table that actually worked. Then allow us to swap suits between our reserve suit list and our active suit list up until the match actually starts, so we can make some suit decisions based on the map and the players we are facing. This would basically just require the match making system to choose the map before starting to fill the teams. It would also mean that those people who are picky can drop out of the que as soon as they see what map they are queued up for, rather than leaving after the match starts and leaving the team a man down.
When I think about it, in DUST I usually had my list of fits maxed out, but in a given day of play I usually did not use more than 5 fits. It was mainly what I felt like focusing on that day, and a couple of special purpose fits, like AV, or anti-sniper. This new approach would not change things for me that much, and it would make it much faster to find the fit I am looking for from a selection of 5 than from a selection of 30 when I respawn.
Overall, I think I like this approach. It has versatility, but also requires planning and strategic thought.

No sir, just 1 fit in a match. You can make as many as you want before a match but once you are in you are stuck to 1 role until the next one.

As long as there is a supply depot in battle I don't care.
It got to a point where changing suits was a habit instead of making a solid fitting to begin with.

Besides.... 7 Snipers...

I agree adapting was nice, But I also have a feeling that when requests are made to constantly load new fittings to characters data within games it has been proven to cause dreaded lag and frame rate surges.
Dust 514 wasn't the only game to experience that.
Pretty sure they are doing what their doing for a reason not just for the heck of it.

That is not accurate.
You select a number of fits for your Formation. You bring your formation to the battle and have access to any fit in that formation either at Supply Depots or when you're respawning.
The exact number you're allowed in a formation has not been determined, but it is larger than one.

That gives room for a little variation around the role you want to play, and still have some slots for roles you may need to counter specific situations.
As I alluded to before, LOL KILLZ's suggestion of just one has the problem that if you can only play a Sniper, and there are 6 other Snipers on your team, your team is guaranteed to loose. Having 2 available suits would get you out of this, by letting you have one of your fits be a more generic role, but would not allow you to vary your main role any. Having 3 suits, a sniper could have an assault oriented suit in case there are too many Snipers, and then have room for a stealth sniper fit and a speed sniper fit for getting into position quickly. (Sniper is just the most blatant example of what I am talking about.)
I think 3 suits is the absolute minimum, but I would like a little more choice.

I'm kind of thorn on this because this can mean few things. Does that mean we will blindly enter the battlefield? Does that mean we can screw ourselves easily? Or maybe there won't be many obstacles to go through hence few fits will be enough?
If they plan to have any kind of variety in maps and objectives it is only right to show them to players beforehand. The more fits you can have the less information you need. If you have to choose you need to have some info on what's the job about. You are not going to deploy a heavy into an open field right?
I personally think that you should (at least) have acces to enough fits so you can set one of the following :
- 2 main roles + 1 alt
- 1 main role + 2 alts
Two roles is too few. Three is where it starts to work. Main is what you spec the most + variations of it. Alt is something you can properly use but not on the same level as main.
If they want to limit the freedom of choice but not really, why not categorize it? Say you have 3 slots. Slot nr 1 is your main thus you can have x fits in there. Slots nr 2&3 are alt slots (or 2main 1 alt) thus having y slots (x>y).
That would allow you to fit in both offense and defense. Say a backup support or a backup firepower. What do you think?

I think Fox's number of 5 feels reasonable, maybe 6. It's flexible enough that you get to select a couple main roles with a few variations each. It's still restrictive enough that you'll probably want to coordinate with your squad mates ahead of time to decide who is going to bring what so your group can cover a wider range of needed roles.
Additionally it kinda helps promote a but of spy game meta. If you find out what the enemy is bringing, you could use it to your advantage by bringing counter fits or pushing the battle in a way that would disadvantage the enemy.

Just how my mind works... random associations and such. Reading your last post reminded me (for whatever reason) of an old scene from an early Southpark episode in which Cartman yells at his cat for getting too close to his pot pie.

o/ Pokey & Fox
Has Rattati indicated that a Formation will permit more than one base suit type?
Perhaps I missed something, but my takeaway was that a player will pick his Class at the start of a match and would be prompted on spawn to select from his/her stored loadouts within that Class. In other words, a player who opts to run Fatty at the start of match will be held to that decision for the entirety of said match. Did Rattati indicate otherwise?

From my understanding, you can have a number of fits for each class and you can put whatever mix you desire into your formation.
So you shouldn't be limited to a specific class, just the max number of different fits allowed in the formation. Numbers are all up in the air but that's the general idea.
So you could have like, two assaults, a sentinel, a marksman, and a vanguard fit, and be able to switch between any of them between spawns or at a supply depot

Since vehicles won't be a thing, I feel like this will not really be an issue to most of the Dust community (including non-Forumites). Five fits will be enough to adapt to most situations when there aren't that many variables to deal with.

<3 I was in college when the first SP episode aired. There was a buzz going around the art department, everyone wondering wtf South Park was going to be like. It reminded us all of sophomore-level design projects where we had to create cut-out designs to practice the old school graphic design vellum overlay techniques. We all could kind of relate to the crappy animation quality. The next day all you could hear was 3 floors of design and art majors trying our best to do Cartman's voice. I'm still kind of amazed it's still going.
