I don't care what stage nova is in, just make it playable now.
I'll settle for that single stage lobby shooter demo whatever.
So we can have a good feel for the game and give better feedback for the devs.

I'll even play as a gallenturd, even though i\ll be puking the whole time.

I feel the same way.
But I also understand that they need to have the game progressed to a certain stage before player feedback will be helpful. Right now there are probably things in the game that don't make any sense, because other things that they rely on to work have not been added yet.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

It really should be in a closed beta early access stage on Steam, with all us dust veterans having access to it and giving our *ahem* constructive feedback to help make the game perfect.

Not to mention as soon as it goes public you're immediately opened up to media sinking their teeth in and reporting on the state of the game, which could be really unflattering right now.
A bad press rap out of the gate like that can be difficult to recover from. And don't say "But it's just a beta, people will understand!" No, they won't. The term "beta" has been bastardized to mean "demo" for most companies and people assume accordingly.
If anything they move to a very focused testing group first and probably make them sign an NDA. Public testing will come in time, but it's not going to be really soon.

Ew, no. Having seen some "early access" games, I have come to despise the trend. I have yet to see a game that is early access AND enjoyable.
