I was thinking about the moon mining update coming to EvE and how cool it could be to integrate Dust into it.
What happens with the new moon mining mechanic is that a giant laser / tractor beam slowly, over the course of a few days, pulls up a chuck of moon. And when it gets high enough into space, blows it up into an asteroid field for pilots to mine. This is regarded as a very profitable thing to do.
The idea being that Dust mercs could land on the chunk, and attempt to plant a bomb (CS Style?? (Never played it)) to blow it up before it leaves the gravity pull of the moon. Affectively for a short time, halting the cash-cow of a corp.
A few pointers - Mercs would need to get there by ship, needing to be hired by an eve corp.
- Blow the ship up and we couldn't land on the chunk. We'd also loose everything we brought with us.
- Maybe there could be old derelict structures to fight in and around.
- There are 1000's of mineable moons in EvE.
What do you think??

If you want to counter a corp's moon mining activities, then why not destroy the source of the tractor beam? Why deploy a team of mercs to nance around on an unstable surface while being subjected to ungodly gravitational forces? This idea needs 99% modification. |

I think it's best if any potential connection would add value for EVE players, such as send Merc squad to the moon to secure a site that offers a 10% better yield than normal

I would love such interaction between the games, but things are what they are. Even that in a best case example probably wouldn't be realistic.
Maybe it could work as a static environment for NOVA though. I mean, mercs are dropped off onto a chunk of rock with objectives A. B. and C where those objectives are detonation sites. Team A is dropped to capture and secure each for a set period of time for the charge to activate. Team B is fielded to defend the rock against site activation. The whole match is time-based. Set and defend until explosion. Suicide run. The environment could be fun if giant laser strikes (implied EvE mining lasers) could hit randomly against the battlefield. Something like 1 every 20-30 seconds, randomly anywhere in the game zone. Or even just visuals of laser strikes in the distant backgrounds. All would be random and without warning, or some variation, effectively acting like larger and more visual orbital strikes. It would be gorgeous to look up to see dark space littered with EvE ships attacking the mining station, even it it was a scripted battle on rails. No one is going to just sit and watch on a regular basis, else they get shot and killed. I just mean to activate the background to make it FEEL as though we are part of something bigger.... even though we all know we're not ;)
Yeah. I had to get that last jab in there.

I was thinking this too. And I wholly agree, it would be a lot easier to sell the concept to EvE pilots. But my train of thought was that mechanics that give flat bonuses could be abused. For example; creating a fake corp to wage war on your real corp, just to give the percentage boost, and giving no real no fear of loss.

And it sounds way more badass.
Plus a small chunk of moon could be easily procedurally generated. And there are 1000's of moons as opposed to 1 Array.

Okay, you talked me into it. If it means that I can bid on jobs via a comlink, pilot my warbarge to the scene of the mission, deploy by dropship and murder red dots, then I'm down with that. When do we start? |
