To start off, I'm thumbing through a few threads about FF, and my question is as follows-
Did anything that was said change this:
CCP Logibro wrote:Nova is still a prototype, so them working on it doesn't mean it's absolutely going to be a thing. Just means it's not on the shelf.
I'm not being a d*ck, it's a sincere question. If what was said at FF does indeed mean Nova is now "a thing" then it's cool to finally have some solid info, and congrats to all the PC folks.
For my actual shred of constructive input, I remember reading an article back when I was playing Dust. The article was already over a year old when I read it. It's been a loooooong time since I've read it at this point so the exact details are extremely fuzzy, but the article spoke of the possibility that CCP would collaborate with some form of game streaming service (this all has since fallen through). The ideal result at the time was that you would be able to play EVE on a PS4.
I shouldn't have to bring this up, but in the interest of saving everyone some time I have a KB/M hooked up to my PS4 right now and yes, EVE would suck if you had to use a DS4. Moving on.
Fast forward to now. EVE has entered a F2P era, and there is the possibility of a CCP shooter coming to PC in the next 1.5 to 87 years. Does CCP attempt to hook up with a game streaming service again? Granted I don't know why it didn't work before, it could be a reason that would make in not work now either. But it would let CCP tap EVE into the console market, allow Nova to be built as a PC game and still release on PS4 ideally right along side the PC release, and it would allow CCP to avoid having to deal with Sony (I would imagine the game streaming service would deal with Sony). I'm sure there will be a laundry list of reasons why this won't work, and that's fine. Like I said, this is simply the last shred of constructive input I have left.
And to end with a bit of non constructive input-
I see some people citing cost as a problem with VR. Let me say I'm not sold even a little bit on VR right now, but I feel like some of the people who take issue with the cost of VR might have been some of the same people who were telling me I could pick up a cheap gaming PC for like $800. I don't remember names, so I won't throw out any accusations. If you are unhappy about VR prices and have never quoted PC prices to anyone, no offense intended, this bit isn't for you, move along.
However if you are unhappy about VR prices but have attempted to play PC salesman at any point in your life.......

From what I have gathered, and this is just based upon what I have read because I have not watched any footage, they have merely confirmed Nova still exists as a "project," they did not say anything about it becoming a "product." That is what they mean when they say they are green lighting a game, that it goes from "project" to "product."
My take is that the only thing that has been confirmed is that they are still working on it, which is a good thing.
When the game gets the green light, it will get an official name, and will not be called Nova. At least I have never heard of a project keeping its name once it becomes official.

You so sneaky! ...to run a VR headset you'd need a $800 PC with at least a GTX970, basically spending the same amount of money (or over half, not 100% on this) on something with the potential to make you nauseous after 15 minutes. Oh right, not to mention some of them require you to buy separate controllers for them (I'm looking at you, PSVR) on top of that.

Again, i'm not a VR supporter. But you can get a PS4 for $300 bucks, a used Move controller for $35, and a used camera for $50. That's $420 before tax, and I'll ballpark the price of a PSVR headset at $400 so your looking at a max of around $900 after tax.
I'm sure you could probably get a low end gaming PC for around $500, and I'm sure if you were trying to scrape the low end of Nova you'd probably want to go above $600 or so (obviously we know nothing about specs atm), and if you didn't want said PC to be obsolete a month or 2 after you bought it, or if you wanted a PC that could do a bit more than run a single game on low settings, you'd probably be approaching $800, $900.
I have no interest in the price of VR gaming on PC. I honestly have no interest in the price of VR gaming on PS4.
I was simply observing that when it was stated Nova was a PC project and the console players expressed their displeasure, there was a whole lot of "PCs aren't that expensive" and "htfu poors".
Now that VR is draining resources from Nova it's being pointed out how expensive it is for people to get into VR. I'll agree, it's expensive. But I really do feel deep down in my fried pork chop filled gullet that some of the people unhappy about VR prices were telling console players to suck it up about PC prices. And keep this in mind-

Nova is still definitely a thing and I believe now 100% it will be a product.
They wouldn't move a game's development around the world if they though it would fail.

You wouldn't think so, but at the same time if anyone was going to do it, it would be CCP.
And unfortunately this is all still meaningless to console players (I know how much of a beloved group we are to the PC elitists and their CCP overlords). The only upside is there still seems to be quite a ways to go, and maybe something miraculous happens. |

CCP is more experienced with PC development so it would be easier for them to release updates, hotfixes, etc.
If in turn it is very successful on PC, then it can transfer over to console, and from what I know of the PS4/Xbone, it should be a fairly smooth transition.

Wow I'm very late. So not much on Nova, hmm; not surprising but it's still in the works. That's still good, it's not completely satisfactory but it's something.
As someone who cannot use VR I'm disappointed however. So it's an ehhhh/lukewarm feeling.

Hold on, look at PS2 on PC vs PS4. As a practical measure imho, it should be on PC only. All the is done from PC to console ports is as shitty port cash grab with not even half the content and barely any support.
I cannot believe I just said that. I just don't trust CCP to manage both properly and the lifespans of consoles vs PC. I'm so conflicted with CCPs management, my wants, and practicality.

Yeah, I know. Maybe in a different world if they had waited for the PS4 to release Dust things would have turned out different.
But yeah I get its easier to deal with PC. It's just unfortunate that so many have to be left behind, and honestly second hand fun just isn't nearly as appealing as fresh and new.
