I think it would be interesting to discuss the different doctrines the factions use, and how they could be improved for Nova.
An example of what I'm talking about, with what I believe the Caldari doctrine to be: It's primarily based around siege warfare: the majority of the fighting force staying in one place and covering a large area with long-range weaponry. The fact that they're staying in one place for long periods of time makes nanohives especially useful, which is why Caldari logis are specialized in them. Caldari scouts fit in by scouting around the map using their wide-but-low-precision scans to give the main force a good idea of where the bulk of the enemy is. This improves the main force's reaction time to make their long range even more useful. Though it isn't perfect, it's theoretically very effective if properly executed.
However, not all doctrines work that smoothly.
Amarr scouts, for example, don't really fit in with everything else Amarr-made. While it would make sense for them to be specialized in uplink-delivery (counteracting the main force's slow speed to allow them to quickly flank regardless), they're instead focused on scan precision instead. While you may think that, being e-war, scan precision should be a scout thing, its usefulness lies more in a defensive role, where a scout's speed would be wasted, and their low-health would be even more of an issue as they lack the element of surprise there. So, it would make more sense to give a heavier suit a precision bonus, and Amarr scouts a fitting discount on uplinks, along with their stamina bonus.
Any similar thoughts, or ideas on new types of suits to fill missing roles? This made me think that there could be a suit with heavy armor and good scan precision, dedicated to defense instead of using a heavy weapon.

You will find that the various specialties of each race will align generally with the specialties of that race in EvE. That won't necessarily make a lot of sense in Dust/Nova.
I found the use of typical weapons and gear for Caldari on my Caldari trained main worked really well, whether I was running a scout or assault. The same sort of thing for my Gallente alt meant I could achieve quite decent performance on each of these characters as long as I used the correct combat styles for each. The correct weapons and gear for each suit were outlined by the various bonuses for each race, although I never felt that the bonuses were as good as they should have been, although they did seem to be appropriate. |
