I streamed it this morning: https://www.twitch.tv/midnightwyvern/v/111336328
Think of this game as a combination of Dust 514 and Star Wars Battlefront 2. Customizable infantry loadouts and vehicles, flyable AND boardable Capital Ships, and can support up to 64 players in combination with some really good Bot support if there aren't a lot of players online.

This game is worth every penny, and I'm LOVING it as a way to get that old feeling of playing Dust 514 back.
It actually even has a system where depending on the result of the last match, it puts either the ULA or the AIA in respective Attacker and Defender positions. An after-launch goal is to set up a Planetary Conquest style system with a persistent set of territories that you can fight over both in space and on the ground.
GET THIS GAME.

DUST Fiend wrote:It's still pretty buggy right now and limited, but you gotta get you some Star Marine.
AFF just never really grew on me, though I may go back and mess around in it at some point. Star Marine is 2 years of work for 2 maps and 2 modes, and they didn't even add more guns.
When they update it again so that you can at least throw grenades and not have them bounce off low obstacles and come right back at you, maybe I'll think about saving up to upgrade my computer.

Draxus Prime wrote:I know the devs of this game and they even game like 10 keys to hand out. They seem super nice and their game seems really promising however their player base is virtually non existent. I think it would be a great game with a bit more support Yeah, I was just playing with [AFF]Farseer earlier. That guy is beast with Corvettes.

It's not that simple, considering the fact that the overall system is built to plug right into the larger game. It's an early alpha still. Grenades are pretty easy to get a hang of, the lack of indicators is a bit of an issue at the moment though ahah. Lots of random deaths by explosions :D EVA is the best thing in the world, so hard to play any FPS now without it. When DUST went into beta it was how many years in the making with an ambush map and a skirmish map lol. I'm certainly looking forward to updates, but they put a strong foot forward with 2.6 Fiend, virtually all of that gameplay was present in the initial release of Alpha 2.0 LAST YEAR. If you look at YouTube videos and Twitch recordings from then up until now, you'll see that that gameplay was already there, remained untouched until 2.6 finally released, and then all they really add was a match system and grenades.
If there had been no first-person combat in Star Citizen until that patch, maybe I would share your enthusiasm, but Star Marine just isn't that much of an update on what was already there, and I've been hearing a similar sentiment from many of the streamers I watch who are normally very supportive of CIG.
If they continue this crowdfunding campaign, they're going to exceed the funding Activition provided Bungie for development of Destiny (most of it was used on advertising) while only having released a few locations around a single planet as the Persistent Universe, a space dogfighting mini-game, a first person shooter mini-game, a SINGLE planetside location you can't even fly to, and some pretty hangars.
They need to step their game up.

(I say well polished in terms of overall scope and attention to detail, the games understandably pretty buggy still) I'm not really sure exactly how they would go about doing that other than continuing exactly what they've been doing all along. As far as I can see, they're right up there in or near the front of the pack. I feel like CIG operates inside of an echo chamber thanks to their fans just showering praise on everything they produce. That's not really that useful from a feedback standpoint.
I think it's important to point out the limitations of Star Marine as they are.

I think it's important to point out the limitations of Star Marine as they are. I think they're painfully aware of the limitations of it. They have a ton of feedback, just because their fans happen to enjoy the content doesn't make it an echo chamber. There's more back and forth between them and the community then I think I've ever seen in a gaming company. You can be salty though, that's cool Hey, I pledged for the game. I just don't get why people are trying to describe Star Marine as some crowning achievement of the genre.
It doesn't look bad, but you have to admit it's pretty limited.
