I'd recommend trying to get with EVE University or Brave Newbies. They're very new-player friendly and will teach you a lot about how to be an effective player.

EVE Online is something else. Its a love hate relationship between point and click games and being back in New Eden. If you joined EVE Online to fill the hole in your heart that Dust 514 left, you'll unfortunately be disappointed.
I'm an EVE player myself, although I'm currently on the shelf because EVE Online has become too advanced for my laptop to run it anymore. So my deadspace / officer fitted Raven and Skiff are permanently docked for now.
But if you have any questions, hit me up. [email protected]. I can help you with advice and how to get through lowsec and nullsec without getting netted or webbed and how to hide when the griefers catch you.
Also, mining is boring but its good to get in too. It'll help you make ISK and be able to fashion yourself a decent ship....so just remember that.

Open up the map and set course to the furthest system up north. Do that and return to your starting point once you got there. Lemme know your results.

Haven't done it yet but knowing the map so far and security ratings, I'd likely run into some raiders. better go in the dirt cheap ship to do that.
