For Nova I would like to propose the Rise of the Warbarge!
One of the limitations when designing dust is that due to the EVE link, giving items a physical presence and requiring them to be moved was not possible
In Nova I propose making the Warbarge integral to Merc life, used to initiate Planetary/Orbital Conquest (and Corp FW), it must be physically stocked with Clones and gear for the battle ahead. This means you have to commit resources to the battle and allows some interesting battle mechanics
(The Dust PC mechanics were always jarring to me as it was often decided by clone counts, and if clones are so plentiful in Pubs why would they be the deciding factor in PCs)
I would like to propose 3 consecutive attacking wins to take a Planet/Orbital Structure, that progresses through the structure
If the attackers lose the first battle they get the opportunity to go double or nothing, where the battle moves to the breaching Warbarge, if the attackers are then defeated again they lose all Warbarge inventory. There could even be the option to go Triple or nothing, where if the attackers lose, they lose the entire Warbarge
-2 >> -1 >> 0 >> 1 >> 2
Warbarge Loss >> Warbarge Inv Loss >> Starting Battle (Breach Site) >> 2nd Attack win (Powercore) >> 3rd Attack Win - Flip Ownership (Bridge/Command Core)
Any Attacker Win takes them to the Powercore (and therefore 3 consecutive wins to flip ownership)
The option would exist for the battle to flow back and forth, but would be limited by the amount of gear/clones the attackers brought to the fight
Upgrading the Warbarge (through ISK), would allow for more gear/clones to be brought, better Warbarge Strikes, etc.
Attacks would need to be set up 24 hours in advance and would operate the same way as in Dust
To avoid the issue of District locking there are a few options,
- Several corps can queue up an attack, but will have to fight the other attackers first, winner gets to attack the Planet/Orbital Structure
- Warbarge with highest attack power (upgradeable) gets the attack slot
- Highest Isk bidder gets the slot (The Lore being you payoff a capsuleer to disable the other Warbarges)
I'd like to hear any feedback, or if you can foresee any exploits
