Ever since I got so hooked to my HTC Vive on SteamVR playing War Thunder and Project Cars - Pagani Edition, I had a sudden thought in my head. Wouldn't it be absolutely awesome if LAV, HAV, and Dropship pilots had a VR function given to them as an option?
Let's say you are playing normally without your HMD (head-mounted display, aka VR headset) and suddenly you become the pilot of a Dropship. Suddenly a pop-up message comes up asking if you want to enable VR and you say "YES". Next thing you know you have excellent depth perception, better judgement of speed and how far you are from the nearest object which are practical traits to have in War Thunder as a pilot.
Instead of having to devote a single analog stick on a gamepad or movement of your mouse to move a camera around you just use your head to look over your shoulder and still know which way you're going without much of a visual frame of reference besides terrain. The added depth perception enables you to know how far you are exactly which allows you to move around tight spaces without accidentally hitting nearby structures which is something I always did in War Thunder when I have to hit the deck at 250-350 mph through a small town in Germany while being chased by a Bf-109 in my Yak. Imagine this advantage given to you while in a dropship or (if the video game gods are willing) in a fighter.
The only problem with VR is that it is still expensive ($800 for the HTC Vive) and it still requires a room if you want to include the FPS aspect of it as well. Then there is the development time needed to implement such a feature. Which is why I really don't see this all happening for years to come while CCP is still working on getting the core of the game done first.
Then there are the players who don't have VR and those players might complain about VR players having an advantage I described above for pilots and whether or not they should be sharing the same match with them. Then again, I don't see any War Thunder players without VR complaining about being in the same match as those with VR. So that might just be pointless speculation on my part.
What do you think?

I think it'd be an annoying gimmick. I remember that there are certain levels you play in 3D in Sly 3: Honor Amongst Thieves (PS2) and it would ask you if you wanted to play in 3D or regular. It might be cool for a round or two, but having to wait for that near to pop up in a multiplayer match, then having to put on the gear just to ride a vehicle that might even be destroyed in 2 seconds is way too much work on a FPS multiplayer game.
Now, if the whole game could be played with the VR set, then sure, because you wouldn't have to be prompted, or have to put it on when you hop in a vehicle.
Vive/Oculus should release a PS Sharpshooter-like thing to hold the controllers.

haha you going to keep your vive on top of your head when not in vr just in case you jump in a vehicle? They'd be better off making gunjack like games with the other vehicles. It'd be easier, and more profitable.
ps. try Onward its a cool fps in vr. Has some really good locomotion also.
