Note: The following idea is assuming that Project Nova gets the green light for full development.
I just had an idea for CCP in regards to how to prepare Project Nova for full integration into the Eve Online economy without so much as generating a single ISK into the Eve economy by the Nova player.
Be mindful that this is just a means of preparing Nova for this because this is just a first step in my idea that is actually a one-way transaction in some form.
The Important Questions
I need to set some questions for myself and for the community here since my idea might not be full proof and there is a chance someone else might have a better idea in regards to this topic. If an idea can pass all of these questions with a "yes" without any exceptions then the idea might be worth giving attention to on the part of CCP.
1. Does it ensure that the value of ISK in both games is not lost? This is referring to inflation.
2. Does it ensure that the value of items in both games is not diminished? In other words, will dying in my proto gear still retain that same sting after the integration happens?
3. Is it extremely difficult or almost impossible to exploit? You wouldn't want an Eve player to figure out how to use this to sneak in massive amounts of ISK into a Nova alt.
4. Is it easy to setup? It needs to take advantage of current assets in Eve Online and any assets that are coming in the first iteration of Project Nova.
5. Can it enable immediate adjustments by CCP if needed? If an adjustment is needed, CCP needs to be able to accomplish that as fast as possible.
Now for my Idea!
Since this is very difficult for me to explain as a wall of text and I don't want to start off this discussion as a wall of text, I will simplify it as much as I can by using a flow chart to show you the flow of ISK.
(Eve Player) ----> (Owns a planetary interaction colony in Eve) ----> (Colony is attacked by NPE rats)
[Colony output diminishes] ----> [Colony asks Eve Player to seek help] ----> [Eve Player creates Public Contract]
***Public Contract tells Eve Online players how much ISK needs to be deposited into contract based on local/regional market of items manufactured by colony. That amount will be the amount taken out of Eve Player's wallet and places on the contract.***
(Public Contract visible to Nova Players) ----> (Nova Players accept contract) ----> (NPE rats have been cleared)
[Colony output normalizes] ----> [Nova Players are paid ISK in separate wallet]
***ISK paid to Nova Players is the amount deposited by Eve Player minus tax for the payment received.***
***ISK flow is strictly one way as in from Eve to Nova ONLY***
To the Eve Player, the colony being attacked by NPE forces (be it rogue drone infestation or local Sansha forces) would appear to be attacked by two clear indicators. Diminished output on a significant (but not catastrophic) level and a notification of some sort. Eve Online has plenty of notification systems in place. Mails, pop-ups, name it.
The Eve Player can choose to ignore it if the colony it not too important to them. The colony output will continue to remain diminished for a period of time until either that time runs out or until a public contract is created by the Eve Player to clear the rats. Either way, the colony will eventually return to normal.
But if the colony is very important to the player and that any drop in output will hurt their bottom line significantly, then they will likely put up a public contract for Nova Players as soon as possible. If the colony is producing materials that are easy to mass produce and have a lower market value, the cost of establishing a public contract will not hurt them very much. But if it's a low-volume, high-ISK item, the cost of establishing such a contract will force the colony owner to weigh their options. For how long will the NPE be attacking the colony? Is it cheaper to pay some Nova Players to clear out the NPE or just let my colony run in a less efficient way?
This seems to satisfy all of the questions for the time being although I'm not exactly sure how easy it is for CCP to create the necessary UI for this on Eve and this is all still assuming Project Nova gets the green light.
So if one day Project Nova and Eve Online finally get full economic integration in which ISK flow can finally go the other way...
***from Nova to Eve for example***
...then what will happen is that ISK will NOT be flooding the Eve market namely because all of that ISK was never generated by Nova players. It was merely transferred from Eve to Nova and was transferred based on local markets, taxes, and it was done through public contracts.
And since the ISK gained this way is stored separately in a Nova Player's 2nd wallet from that of his/her usually Nova-made ISK wallet, which cannot be transferred to either wallet, it's not likely to flood the market in Eve with ISK.
And since the tax can be adjusted by CCP to account for the value of the Nova gear in that side of the game, this could make sure that the value of proto gear in Nova will not diminish.
What do you all think?

I like the general gist of the idea.
I do have a couple points though.
1) Rats. Nova mercs would just be glorified pest control. The obvious answer would be Dinosaurs. Even EVE pilots would have a hard enough time finding the peanut butter to bait the traps. And Dinosaur Hunters are way cooler than Rat Trappers.
2) They would need to have some sort of metrics or levers of control for these infestations. If there are more serious infestations than there are Nova players to take care of the problem, EVE players will come to resent it fairly quickly. If that was addressed at some point in the original proposal, and I missed it, I apologize.

Yes, it's a good attempt to outline how this would happen, but CCP are very good at organising stuff like this and will probably already have plans for it. We should wait to see if there's going to be any economic link in the first place and thereupon determine if there are any problems with it.
I don't really agree with the one-direction-only ISK flow. Nova will have its own source of ISK generation, so that would be additional ISK to Nova only. That sort of implies that contracts would only be from EvE to Nova. What about the hypothetical situation of Nova mercs issuing a contract to call down an orbital strike from EvE - that would be an ISK flow from Nova to EvE. Your proposal precludes that.
Any attempt to do something "special" for Nova perpetuates the concept that it's not "really" part of the New Eden universe. When the economical link is introduced, I'm sure CCP will work out precisely how they want it to work - both ways. |

Here is a simpler solution to integrating the economies.
1) Give each game its own currency: ISK (EVE), VISK (Valkyrie), NISK* (Nova), GISK (Gunjack) *Currency names for Nova and Gunjack subject to change.
2) Have items for each game on the same open market, but only purchasable with their own currency.
3) Include a Currency Exchange in the open market. You can sell NISK for ISK so that your DUST character can buy stuff on the EVE market or pay EVE players for assistance. EVE players can buy NISK to buy low/sell high on the DUST markets.
It would be a self regulating system. If people start exploiting a flaw in Planetary Conquest and DUST players are rolling in NISK, then there will be a lot more NISK being sold on the currency exchange, and if you want your NISK to sell you need to set the ISK prince of you NISK lower than the next guy and the value of NISK vs ISK will drop.
So any deference contracts etc can be paid in the currency of the character you are hiring. Or if you arrange something informally you can pay in whatever currency both parties agree to. (An EVE player might want to be paid in Nova currency.)

I still think Dinosaurs > Pirates. Can you imagine a T-Rex running down a Sentinel? Or a Minja Raptor Jumping a Raptor? I can. It is glorious.

I'm going to be the downer and say dinosaurs need to stay in ARK: Survival Evolved. I want to fight me some Sansha zombies and Blood Raiders. Sorry, not sorry.
