Today's ingame news post talked about the the Imperial Guard touring the Imperial city as it gets ready for the coronation of Catiz I.

Mentioned several times were the golden ceremonial dropsuits worn by the Guard, said to be, "a basic field test of new dropsuit technology that has recently been developed."
I know that this is probably wishful thinking on my part, but it fans the flames of hope that are sustaining me until Eve Vegas...

It already exists.
Lore confirms Gallente who are extreme body modders, and there's an in-game item that is basically fitness holo-reels with anthropomorphic animal characters that is described as having developed a cult following in a small subset of the population, as well as people who like to go to conventions for it and "dress up" as their favorite characters.
Combine the two. It basically confirms furries as well.

Very interesting indeed. If they stopped developing Project Nova, this news story wouldn't be mentioning dropsuits at all.

Nah I don't think so.
Mercenaries and dropsuits will always exist in New Eden in a lore sense, even if we can't play as them. They haven't disappeared out of the universe.
I wouldn't get my hopes up too much about this, it's just a bit of lore.

It seems reasonable to surmise that continuing to mention established units of immortal soldiers in the World News is by deliberate intent. They could theoretically be posting news involving Equilibrium of Mankind or any other minor faction rarely visible in-game, but instead they have continued to name-drop immortal mercenary corporations.
I'm pretty sure that's not an accident considering all the random corporations that were deliberately name-dropped leading up to the reveal of Upwell Consortium and then their establishment as the creators of all the new structures in EVE Online.
