I received my case for my first PC build today. It is named Lamar, because Lamar is the greatest man in GTA V...also because it is black. I have been a filthy Mac "gamer" for years now, and must make a sacrifice to GabeN and Beesus so that my sins can be forgiven.
Tell me, PCMR people of the DUST forums, how must I atone for my sins? Will post pics so that I become clean and free from the shackles of this Mac.

Why bother to buy each individual piece and go through the hassle of assembling it yourself? I bought a pre-built PC on discount and it's serving me well. Easy as pie, I bought it online so it was even delivered to my doorstep!

Better parts for a lower price...
More chance to customise...
That satisfaction of having built it yourself...
Knowing how it fits together so it's easier to take apart and clean/replace parts. |

There is an element of this if it interests you but most PCs I have had are pretty straight forward and modular.

Put a wind turbine on it, and you can run Minecraft at 120 fps depending on how much RAM I you have downloaded.
You may need to throw in some kind of wires on it, though, to mimick a mobo.
In all seriousness, if you only plan to game, you don't really need anything above dual core for most games, so if you want to go really high end, at most, do quad core. An i5 will go a long way with your wallet.
For mobo, I was looking at an x99 just 'cause, but you can pretty much use any of them as long as you know what is compatible with the rest of your parts. My first mobo must have been 50 bucks maybe lol I still use it.
Design wise, win7 is bae, but the latest OS will always have the best security. Linux is pretty cool, too.
For gfx, I use a GTX 970. Can still play all my games at the highest setting, even though it is a couple of years old. Granted, the best looking I have is Witcher 3.
I use a sound card and 5.1 audio, but you really don't need one, and 2.1 is better if you don't have much space for your rig. Hell, my 970 can have good sound to it, but I'm an audiophile.
Buy a gaming keyboard, but pretty much any mouse will do most of the time.
I use SSD to boot, HDD as storage. SSD is bae, but expensive.
Watercooling is bae.

The first time I did it it took me about an hour, I was nervous putting the RAM in because it required so much pressure to do.
The CPU was easier to install than I thought it'd be though. |

Keep an eye on sales and ****. Games can get ridiculously cheap on PC. The Humble Bundle is good for this. I bought the 2k Games Bundle and got Battleborn, Mafia 2, Civ V and and about 5 other games for Gé¼15, and Battleborn was only out a few months.
