When I first logged onto Dust 514 I was expecting that in a few years there would be the ability to explore planets, find relics, interact with Fauna as well as trade small and delicate commodities that can't be found in bulk. I also expected that we would be able to travel freely throughout the cluster. Basically I was expecting to have No Man's Sky merged with Dust 514 some point.
Does anyone else have that same sentiment?

I never expected a universe sized universe from CCP. I just wanted a couple planet sized planets to fight over, or even just one. That alone would have been more than enough. NMS is boss as **** though, even if it is fundementally boring.

NMS is boss as **** though, even if it is fundementally boring. No Man's Sky isn't boring for me because I want to do a lot of things and I want to them quickly. Though it makes the game too damn tense; I keep trying to explore a lot of things on foot, but I keep getting attacked by flora and fauna- not to mention those damn drones.
Those drones honestly make the game too freaking restricted because I will literally do nothing but scan plants and animals before getting attacked by a drone. It's even worse when you are trying to study lore, restructure your inventory or craft objects because they won't leave you alone. I hope there's some rare object that makes drones unaware of my presence as long as I don't shoot.
Overall after I get off the game I feel tense instead of relaxed. There's too many things that stress me out in game for this game to be relaxing for me. I can't see myself playing it often, and I'll probably give it up soon. Too much time + not enough reward = not worth the effort.
It would have been boss to see it mixed with Dust's ability to fight battles however.

I am the total opposite.
I find it oddly relaxing. I think it is the lack of all the NPCs, minimal fighting, and general quiet of the game. It's like a virtual walk through nature. I make sure on occasion to have enough Carbon and Plutonium to refuel my suit and ship, and I am fine.

Seems all the planets I have been to have been pure hell. Heat waves, cold movements and radiation storms every damn 15 minutes. And of course all the drones have been in a frenzied state before I even set foot on the planet.
Feels like a post apocalyptic game(everything is trying to kill me) to me instead of a walk through nature.

Does anyone else have that same sentiment? Yep, I expected the same. Walking In Stations promised the sort of thing that you're talking about, but on EvE stations, interacting with EvE pilots walking around in their avatars. I expected the same sort of thing as an EvE pilot, being able to walk around on the surface of a planet.
So much scope, just completely missed. |

I really wanted to be able to see other players, but nope. NMS is like minecraft, but with more shapes, minimum building, and 0 player interaction.
I'd rather wait for another game by That Game Company, or for Star Citizen to go gold in a few decades.

I started playing because I heard that even if the chance was slim, that it would be technically possible to meet up with someone.
I started playing thinking it was going to be like Journey where the meeting was absolutely random, but the journey together was something... Special. Man, I wish I had more words for playing Journey with a stranger through the whole campaign, but I'm too tired.

Same. Actually got scrapped in space because I took on some fighters and they murdered me instantly. Luckily I found my grave in space and got everything back :D
All my planets have been wack. All have either been loaded with heat storms or radiation. And for the first time I have encountered a planet with toxic rain. I am going monolith to monolith getting awesome stuff though. Seems I can barely go two hundred meters in my ship before encountering something alien.

I have had a mix bag of planets. From toxic hell to lush beauty to water world to sandy deserts. It's been interesting and filling a niche I needed. Exploring with out too much to focus on other than that. The mining and trading is the means to an end for my exploration and I accept it. Just working on getting better ship and upgrades and finding more new planets. I want to see how much random this game can really do.

There was plenty of video of what the game was going to be like. They stated how unlikely it would be for players to interact.

This. It's actually WHY I am enjoying it. I just want to explore. That's it. Would be cool if I ran into some one randomly but I don't care. I wanted something where I didn't have to think too much, I could just sit back and get lost. This does it for me 100%.

I think it fulfills that "walk in the park" need everyone gets from time to time, and that "go out and discover something different in a different place" need people get when they have become complacent with life. It's an interesting gaming palate cleanser.

The main developer said "if you want to know what you look like you'll have to find another player and have them tell you" that's about as strong as an implication of multiplayer as you can get without actually saying it.
Numerous times he said it'll be unlikely to find another player, but never that it was impossible. It turns out that it is. Two people after day 2 linked up on a planet, found the same spot on said planet, but couldn't see each other. The whole thing was live streamed. Now I'm not knocking the games premise of anything. Just don't pretend there wasn't any misleading being done because there definitely was.
I'm excited for the games future, I really am. If they add base building like they said, and perhaps include some sort of multiplayer, there's strong chances players will form make shift unions and all gravitate towards the galaxies core and go from there.
But as the game stands right now, the game just lacks features. It has a language learning mini-game which is largely useless, and otherwise you just explore for the sake of seeing different socket set combinations. There can be cool moments. And the game is relaxing. But because it lacks focus, and also doesn't allow me to create my own focus (lack of multiplayer and base building) I just find it hard to stay interested in the game for longer then 1 or maybeeee 2 hour intervals.
Btw, I bought the game knowing these things ahead of time, I simply wanted to support the 11 man team who made it.

It should have said "it's also physically impossible to see other players even if your standing in the same spot" that would have cleared up all the misunderstandings people had in thinking they could potentially find people. These developers are seriously the most vague group of people I've ever heard of. Years into development and most people still had no idea what the point of the game was. It turns out the only point was to explore. At least for now. But what's the point of exploring if you end up getting nothing to show for it? Naming a planet is great and all, but since hardly anyone or no one ever sees it, isn't it like you were never there at all?
I don't mind the games premise I just hope they deliver on their promise of new features over time.
