Hi I've been away from Dust514 for years. Mainly because my PS3 keeps signing me out and I can't fix it. I use DSL for my internet but before that was a problem Dust used to play fine. I had no connection issues before so, this is purely a PS3 communication error. That's why I would like Dust514 to be ported to the PS4.
But maybe I don't need a PS4 port just too get back in the field. If you guys have a solution to my problem I can play again.
The one thing that draws me back to playing my PS3 I keep thinking man I want to play some more Dust but then once the screen is on and it says error you have been signed out. I'm like crap I forgot about that. So I go play Hatsune Miku's Project Diva instead. Someone please save my PS3!
(Edit): I forgot to mention if Dust was ported too the PS4 it would be great though. Because then I could live stream my experience whenever I want to my YouTube channel. |

As for the PS4 port, that was discussed at length and CCP ignored the pleas. "Project Nova" has been launched in its place. It will be on PC. There are other CCP products that are on PC but will be ported to PS4, like Valkyrie, for instance. That's a VR game, but the point is, they can port stuff from PC to PS4 with not that much drama. Perhaps their aim is to get their FPS onto PC so they can port from there to any other platform as necessary?
Putting Dust out on the PS3 in the first place was probably the major fail in all this. Had they put it on PC, they would have been able to port it to anything they want, while keeping the PC version constant with updates just like EvE. At least now, if Nova goes ahead, they will have the port to PS4 as an option.... |

Thanx for the reply and letting me know its shut down. I didn't try to play Dust today at all actually. But couldn't they rebuild the gameplay from scratch then port it to the PS4? |

Well I think my PS3 error has happening since the problem occurred for most users I don't even remember when it started. Then Sony patched but that didn't do anything for me so for the longest time I couldn't play Dust cuz my PS3 would force sign me out! Then I had moved a couple of times and after that I got the Wii U and I was playing smash and all those other games then I got my PS4 and I'm doing a YouTube channel. So today of all days I thought of the idea to Google the error code which fixed my problem. Right after I made this thread. Because before this thread I thought it was completely unfixable.
Long story short now I feel like the octopus from this story I don't know if you heard of it. There's a story about putting an octopus in a tank with a crab in a round breakable jar with a tiny hole in it. So it was a test to see if the octopus could get it out too eat it and it took a long time but it finally managed to eat it. So that's how I feel right now.
Like that octopus I finally managed to fix my PS3 I ate the crab and now its all gone I can't play Dust anymore. |

Valkyrie which is a VR game that's initially only going to be on PC with the Oculus Rift VR headset. Later, it will be ported to PS4 using the Sony Playstation VR headset whatever it's called. Nova isn't supposed to be VR but that won't stop them from porting to PS4 as well, to satisfy the gaming community.
I think the move to PC is to make the PC the base platform for all their games. From there they can port as necessary to other platforms, but with the PC as the base platform they will have continuity as they already have with EvE. PCs are continuously upgrading, and don't go obsolete in the same way as a game console would, as they are a continuous evolution of platform architecture. Game consoles tend to be revolutionary rather than evolutionrary.
So just wait a while for Nova to come out on PC and see whether it ports to PS4. I'd bet it does, but in any case, I'll be happy to try to play it on my laptops with a Logitech game controller. |

I think this was the fundamental issue with Dust - it was on a console, which then became obsolete. It should never have been primarily a console game. EvE is on PC and potentially will never die, just keep improving over the years, decades, etc, transforming seamlessly into newer versions of itself. If they could see a point to it, they could also port it to consoles, if they wished, but I don't think it suits them in its present form. Maybe with the new in-capsule control interface it might, but that's new and relatively irrelevant to the way EvE works.
For any other game in the EvE universe, it would be a simple and obvious port to XB or PS, and immune to platform obsolescence because the development is primarily for a platform which will never go obsolete. |

Players on PC using mouse and keyboard would dominate the game no matter what, and if CCP attempted to implement heavy aim assist to allow controllers to compete, it would only alienate PC players who don't want the game forcing them to lose gunfights, and console players who don't want to feel like the game is holding their hand.
You can't have an FPS with crossplay between PC and console.
Ever.

We saw it to some extent with KB/M users against DS3 users, and how superior they were with a bit of practice. I agree it would be an unfortunate imbalance to have both platforms running the game. However it has been done for other games, and I still think that people would like to be able to experience it. Even though I believe the KB/M users would have a significant advantage over me either on the PS3 or on PC with a PS3 style controller, I would still prefer the controller method of input. I believe that is what makes the difference, not what platform people are playing on. |

That could be the case in games where your ability to kill doesn't eventually impact your ability to succeed in the larger picture, but it's already been confirmed for us that territorial warfare is on the roadmap, and that's where this concept breaks down.
Having cross-platform play in this case would result in console players being entirely shut out of territorial warfare, because they would lose every fight to PC players.

The PC makes a continuous platform, constantly updating and improving, so it's not necessary to retire a title just because the platform dies. But once it's developed for PC, yes, it should be then ported to whatever consoles suit. The issue being that the game relies upon all players being part of the same universe with no separate servers, and it is absolutely impossible to balance mouse/keyboard with any other control method. Ever. I understand the issue here. You're still missing my point. It's the input method that makes the difference, not the platform. People can use KBM on a console. People can use a game controller on a PC. I'm of the game controller variety. Even on a PC, I would not use KBM, but rather a game controller. That will put me at a significant disadvantage to the KBM users, just as it did with Dust. If it were to port to PS4, I would still not use KBM. |

The issue remains that anyone using the inferior method will always lose, which is NOT fun.
