Has the mentality of players really sunk to the depths of just turning every battle into a free-for-all killfest? It seems that most battles are like that these days. I'm getting very good at detecting stomping behaviour in the other team and leaving battles to save my time and effort. I don't see the point in just endlessly throwing expensive suits and clones in them at the enemy for no real gain. Battles are stomps and I too often find myself on the stomped side....
Of course, without playing it their way, I'm practically not playing at all. Soon I will probably simply not log in. |

Of course, without playing it their way, I'm practically not playing at all. Soon I will probably simply not log in. So what you're saying is you quit when you're losing Of course you'd say that - it's the standard complaint amongst those who think people shouldn't leave battles. But no, I usually don't know whether I'm losing or not when I quit. Sometimes my team wins, but most of the time, it loses. I solo which means I have no say over the team I deploy with other than to leave.
It's more telling to note that the overwhelming majority of my battles are losses. That can't be because I was on the team, or even that I left the battle. They were going to be losses anyway, because the matching system in combination with squadding and qsyncing tends to put the squads on one team, then fills both teams with solos and noobs. The simple, logical result is that a solo or noob will usually be on the losing side. This is the logical deduction from the fact that I am usually on the losing team.
In any case, the usual reason I leave is the type of opponent I encounter. I won't fight people who exploit anything in the game to their advantage. I also leave whenever I detect stomping, because I don't tolerate it. I won't participate in it, and I won't fight against it. There's always the possibility I'll be deployed as filler in a team of stompers and I usually experience that as an extremely boring battle. The stompers have already dealt with the enemy before I have a chance to. This type of battle is very rare.
So cutting a long story short, yes, I'm usually losing when I leave the battle, but I don't know that at the time. It's a fair bet though! |

It will be interesting to see if CCP fixes the things in Nova that I believe are wrong with this game, but they probably think those things are great - everyone else seems to. ;) |

The problem in your case is that you might be stuck in the high bracket matches. By leaving a stomp, a potentially bad end-of-match stat is not registered to your Mu score, and therefore you're not eventually transferred to the low bracket (less intense battles, mostly starter fits). If this is the case: your best bet is to tough out a few crappy fights until the matches soften up. It helps to stay in proximity of competent blues, or find a squadmate to roll with that isn't too irritatingly extroverted (like me :D).
Very late advice, I know.

i hate being on the stomping team
i prefer to be on the weak team, the positives are endless, ill list a few
1) you dont have to go looking for someone to shoot,
2) its a good test of your stealth skills to sneak up on a squad from behind, and melee or knife them,
3) its a good challemger, i rather go 11/19 against decent opposition, than get a boring 8/0 shooting fish in a barrel (narrel surrounded by 10 shooters aiming for the same fish)

There have definitely been some frustrating moments recently, but I have had a ton of fun moments too. More than I had for a long time.
I just remind myself all of this is going away, and the jumpy MDs become minor annoyances.
It was honestly much worse before the announcement and I am just glad people are on and there is still some fun to be had before the end.
If this game weren't ending, I would likely have a different perspective and be much more frustrated with its state.

Very late advice, I know. Well, clearly any advice at this point is going to be superfluous. :)
In any case, I don't actually want to play in lower level matches. I worked hard to get to where I am. I just want decent clean enjoyable battles for the last days. That's why I'm annoyed at what's happening. And I'm not the only one! Plenty I talk to on chat channels say the same.
These selfish fools are driving people like me out of the game prematurely. They won't play Ambush, will they? No, they want to bring their idiocy to Dom and Skirm and turn those into Ambush, because that's where all the people who don't like Ambush are. Any case, it doesn't bother me, the game's dead. I was just really looking forward to seeing how far I could go with this in the time left. I've gotten far enough I think - maxed out CalAss, CalScout, RR, MAGSEC, shields, armour, profile dampening, engineering, electronics. All the things I would probably have wanted anyway, since I never had any intention of training any other races or weapons, at least not on this alt.
I'm glad the game is dead. That lot deserve it. If the game had stayed reasonably playable, I might be sad it's finishing, but with all their shenanigans, you can have it. I don't squad, precisely because I don't want to participate in all this poor behaviour, but even that is irrelevant now. You just can't escape it. |

No, for me the object is NOT to win, at least not at any cost. Using exploits, qsyncing and squadding (stomping) has become the order of the day now. The problem of course is the game which allows all this. No I'm not asking for people to not squad. But it would be very much better if there was a mode where solos didn't have to come up against squads. It used to be that solos didn't actually have to most of the time. But as a solo I can assure you these days, squads are the order of the day in virtually every match and I'm always on the other team. I had 5 battles in a row today, all losses. I left all but the last one, but that was a loss as well. I KNOW when they will be losses, because I've become adept at detecting when the battle is that one-sided right from the start. So I leave when I detect it, simple. Problem is, it's most battles now. It used to be just the odd few...
There might be a point to all this if the battles were evenly matched but they never are. ALL battles are stomps. Either you're in one of the stomping squads or you're on the other team and you're stomped. Doesn't take much to win if you're on the stomping side.... |

My answer to that, if I do stay in the battle, is to switch to BPOs and see how many I can take out with my State Rail Rifle or Militia MAGSEC SMG BPO. That's always fun. :)

You can say whatever you want, but you are just a quitter. I'm not, no matter the consequences. I know this because I've gotten 20+ deaths before just trying to push out of the redline.
#internet honor Sorry but I've got better things to do. If by leaving a battle that's pointless and I'm achieving nothing, I'm a quitter, then so be it. I'd rather quit any number of those battles to try to find a decent one where people aren't using every single exploit they can to win at any cost. If I can't find one within a reasonable time and number of battles, I just switch off and go do something else. Are you salty that I headshotted you from <30 meters with a Tac Sniper on an Amarr Light Frame ak.0? lol Was that you?! :)
You were the only one to snipe me today. I went after you in my Hawk sniper fit later, unless there was someone else. But the game was over before I could take you out!
No, I'm not salty over being sniped. I just countersnipe back. I started in this game as a sniper so woe betide anyone silly enough to snipe me. :)
Edit:
Ah there was one more. I didn't countersnipe you if that was you. I deployed somewhere else I think. |

The level of distaste I'm feeling rising in me is causing me to start feeling like avoiding the game, rather than playing it.
I don't get this stomping problem. What are you asking for? Everyone to run starter fits? Nobody to run in squads? The object is to win and I'll be using proto/officer because I can and the games almost over. It gives me the best chance to win And I guess you've said everything in that reply. It's a good idea to have a solos only match but I don't squad to stomp. I squad because other people make this game fun. It's too boring just playing alone

i prefer to be on the weak team, the positives are endless, ill list a few
1) you dont have to go looking for someone to shoot
2) its a good test of your stealth skills to sneak up on a squad from behind, and melee or knife them
3) its a good challemger, i rather go 11/19 against decent opposition, than get a boring 8/0 shooting fish in a barrel (the barrel surrounded by 10 shooters aiming for the same fish) No you miss my point. I think everyone has missed my point.
I find the type of tactics that this game has degenerated into in order to win just disgusting. I'd rather not play than have to see it.
This is not any sort of game that's enjoyable for someone who refuses to sink to that level. |

Another observation I can make from all this is that this game is obviously completely NOT for me! I can see how I would enjoy a FPS because I enjoy tactics and enjoy accuracy, etc, all the things that supposedly makes this game good.
What I don't enjoy is anything to do with roaming gangs, which is what the qsyncing squads have degenerated into, using exploits that should never have been left in the game and probably wouldn't have if it wasn't finishing. There are a lot of things I could do in this game but won't because I find them disgusting. But if they are the things I would need to do to win, then I'm not interested anyway.
I find a lot of what's going on now infantile and puerile. It looks like a bunch of kids just running rampant. That's probably exactly what it is, for most. I'm glad you lot are enjoying it. It's ruining the game for the rest. |

I have a very specific reason I don't squad. If I did, I'd be on the stomping team. That's the way this game works.
I refuse to participate in stomping. End of story. |

I'm quite sure I was a sitting duck at that range, but well done anyway. ;)
No I didn't countersnipe you - the snipers on that map are usually way up on top of the tower or away in the distance on the cliffs to either side. I usually don't tactical snipe, so I would have gone to one of those positions probably. When I went to redeploy there were no uplinks and I had to go back to base.
Now, next time, snipe me from one of the usual sniper spots and I promise I'll countersnipe you. ;) |

Hence why all the ambush like quality and players. Yes, that's what I think is the problem! All the Ambush players are now turning the other modes into Ambush.
I usually only play Dom and Skirm, because they feel like the closest to being some sort of defined goal to fight for. I now regularly see the opposing team completely ignoring hacking the objectives to just obliterate my team and therefore win through clone depletion.
Wouldn't it be so much better for them all to just p!ss off back to Ambush and leave the rest of the modes to people who really want to play them?
For that matter, wouldn't it be better off for such OP players to be fighting each other in FW?
Neither will happen now, sadly. |

I've finally gotten over my dislike of "wasting" expensive suits. I usually run CalAss ck.0 these days, and I'm having fun trying all sorts of different shield configs to see which ones die slower. I still won't just throw suit after suit at a losing battle, but if I'm at least enjoying myself, I'll stick around with a BPO fit. If I'm not enjoying it, that's when I decide it's not worth my time and effort to stay.
I couldn't give a damn for the people that think it's not honourable to leave the battle, or whatever. Most losing battles are down to less than 10 on my team by the end anyway. In the time I would have stuck around wasting effort on the loss, I could have been (and usually am) playing other more enjoyable battles.
What the stompers don't realise (or don't care about) is that they might be enjoying their stomping, but the stomped don't enjoy it, and leave accordingly. Maybe not all of them, but enough to make the battle so ridiculously one-sided that there's no longer any real achievement in the stomping, except in the minds of the stompers, who somehow see such battles as a "win", and perhaps in the minds of those that are left trying to push out of the redline. If you can achieve that, I think you're really doing something good. Otherwise it's just a waste of time and effort, especially when everyone else has already left. |

Yes, you probably would laugh at me. I think that sort of says a lot about the general mentality of Dust. It's a really awful game, wildly unbalanced, and not at all enjoyable for a solo. This game should simply not be available to solos, but since it is, the squads stomp them. That's the reason I won't squad - I won't participate in that.
But you'd laugh at that, too, I suppose. That's OK. I laugh at the fact you guys think this is a good game. :)
Anyway I had one decent battle today. I stuck out the battles more than I usually would. When I would normally leave at the first sign of stomping, I stuck around. What got me to leave the battles I did leave was stupid blueberries not even attempting to capture the point, just sitting on the sidelines while seemingly only I was the one getting slaughtered again and again.
But that one good battle made up for all the rest. I'll remember it as probably the best of my last battles on Dust.
Now I'll go back to EvE and you can laugh at me for that too. |
