Considering it's me posting this you probably automatically assume this is Doom and Gloom, but really I'm just curious what never made it into the game that at one point or another was said / implied to be. Anything I missed?

I think racial heavy weapon parity was implied to be a thing that might happen.
It's important for everyone to realize this list is pre-Rouge and Rattati. We call these the Dark Times, when CCP Jian was stating things about DUST that would never come to pass.

None of that really matters. The one thing that does matter; the one thing that was supposed to be the raison d'+¬tre of the game was EVE connected PI support. Now when that immediately goes south, what do you think will happen with a game like this?
Here's to hoping for a good game moving forward.

A lot of the huge ideas in 2009-2012 were a bit too ambitious yes. Especially on the PS3. But I mean..... If you look at eve when it came out and now, the game is in a completely different world. If this game lasts as long as eve does, which I think is the whole point. Then in all likelihood, will eventually see some of these far off concepts make an appearance. I think the stuff you mentioned goes into the natural evolution of the game which the detailed in the various articles.
Like vehicles won't be there right away. But when they do add them, would it really be hard to realize racial parity? Especially on PC?

I'm just tired of this "maybe" style of development. We might greenlight nova. We might put in the MMO aspects. We might put in vehicle gameplay. Maybe there will be large maps. Maybe we will see meaningful EVE connection. I'm just so burnt out from maybes right now that until I see it in the game, it is literally nothing but PR spin to me.
And as an aside I think that not putting vehicles in day 1 is a recipe for disaster if they ever intend to put them in. That's a fundamental aspect of the game, tacking it in as an add on later down the road all but assures it won't fit in correctly and we'll be stuck in another endless balancing cycle where they're constantly trying to play catch up without ever even addressing the core issues such as lack of purpose outside of killing things.
I just have to wait. I can only judge the game based on what is in the game, that's my own fault but it's where I'm at. Until I see the game is trying to retain / gain a real identity, I just have to treat it as an outlying interest and source of periodic yet consistent frustration.

Eve didn't always have Titans. They're now a huge part of the game. They didn't have capital auxiliary ships. Those are being added. They didn't have tier 3 cruisers which are fundamentally different then any other ship in game yet they still added them and are a staple when it comes to null sec Pvp. The game isn't broken.
Yes, there will be balancing periods. There always will be balancing periods whenever they add new stuff in. That's just a natural part of any game that promises continuous long term updates. Even if they had tanks day 1. The moment they add a new anti vehicle weapon everything would be thrown off again anyway.
So I mean. Yes there's a point to having it as a feature day 1. And the point I think would be to keep all you stingy tank and ads pilots happy. But ultimately adding them in now or a year after initial release probably won't make a terribly huge difference in terms of balance and how it plays out. It sucks that you'll have to wait. I totally understand that. But I just don't think the balancing argument holds much, if any, weight.
It seems ccp is starting off with small in ship maps with a focus on cqc pvp to try and get a handle on the fps side of the equation. Vehicles don't have a role on maps like that. Vehicles largely didn't have roles in dust period. Which made them frustrating to play by default. My hope is that when PC comes out again, the maps are big enough to warrant having dedicated tankers. Because that'll be good for everyone involved.

144 likes on this, with Cross even becoming a CPM and literally 0 changes to warpoint/reward progression other than the nanite injectors
And I didn't see any warpoints awarded in Project Nova for resupplying, healing, or reviving allies...nor did I see any for hacking objectives or installations.

That was likely because it was a pre-alpha demo. I highly doubt they'd keep WP for kills but decide to remove it for other actions, though only time will tell if positive changes to WP rewards and progression have been implemented.

My hope is that when PC comes out again, the maps are big enough to warrant having dedicated tankers. Because that'll be good for everyone involved. Everything you're talking about here for EvE was evolutionary. Titans were added as an extra large class of ships, but the concept of large ships was already there, they just had to create four new ones and make them a thing.
Too much of what they're talking about "maybe" adding to Nova is revolutionary, requiring not just additions of things to enhance something that's already there, but adding new functionality that didn't exist before (MMO, EvE link), and perhaps will require radical recoding to allow it.
EvE was/is an evolutionary product. What they're talking about with all these maybe's is nothing like that. Their maybe's actually require that they don't code for those things because they don't know if they'll ever be there. |
